05/20/2004: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Pudding Pies!

This is a really short article, but I wanted to get the ball rolling on the quest to find Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pudding Pies. Made by Hostess in the early 1990s, these vanilla goo-filled green-dyed pastries changed the lives of every grade schooler who knew what a “sai” was. After a year of hunting, I’ve located three of the original wrappers and some of the cards, and this has excited me enough to pay tribute even if I don’t have anything too worthwhile to show you. Oh well. They’re great wrappers, though. I love the wrappers. When will the pie search end? Soon, I hope. This is making me feel like such a loser.

So Matt, did B-Prime ever get a real turtle pie to you? I just singed a petition on a website to bring them back. Who knows, maybe they will :-)

first, thank-u for doing what you have done!

the story starts off with my friend and i at work, sitting at the lunch table when he got up and bought an apple pie. for some reason this triggered a happy memory of the ninja turtle pies.

we both remember eating them, but could not remember what they looked like( wrapping, pie, insides ). we shared this happy memory with
other friends and they too remember eating them, but could not remember the detail.

thanks to you, we can all go back to work…

thank-u again

Turtle pies were awesome! They also made pies that were regular outside, with green filling inside. Very messy!

Thank goodness for your crazy bastards. I swore I was the only dork in the world who remembered, nay, ate these scrumptious treats. Then behold, yesterday I mention this savory treat to a paralized buddy of mine at work,(whom these tasty treats helped get through his painful months of chemo) and he then informs me, not only did he remember them, he was a former and fellow puddin’ pie conissuer. Amen brothers and sisters..AMEN

Why did they get rid of those Turtle Pies? They were the shit. I haven’t had one in like 10+ years and I seriously just had a dream that they brought them back. LOL, wow that sounds messed up.

Your site is #1 when Googling (spelled out) TMNT fruit pies. As it rightfully should, as I have rarely seen so wonderful a synopsis of an ephemeral product. You’re totally bookmarked and I’m so telling my friends about this place.

So, it seems my most random search ever is pointless. I’m pregnant damn it, and all of a sudden today I realize I want a Teenage Mutant ninja turtle pie. How I have even remembered them I haven’t the slightest. But, to actually find a site where people are on the same quest, seems unreal. Great to know there are others. But, what I really want is someone to actually find those DamN PIES. preferrably recently made. thank you very much. Rach

Brian I would have to say the petition idea is the best i’ve heard yet.

Well, I don’t know where you guys are at, but anyways i just wrote to hostess. hopefully, they will start to get the point. I believe you can all make a difference by contacting them as well. What a better world it would be right now if we could all enjoy these scrumptious treats. Come on everyone go to it. Rach

Answer honestly:

Which would you rather have back?
A) The troops from Iraq
B) Turtle Pies

I…. I would pick Turtle Pies… am I a horrible person?

The first time I had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pudding pie was in third grade, when my dad dragged me to the laundromat with him. After that day I HAD to have the TMNT pie every time we went to do laundry (but I remember them as having a regular colored shell with green vanilla filling). Anyway, one day we went to the store after dumping our laundry in the machines to get our snacks and there were NO TEENAGE MUTANT TURTLE PIES. The horror. My dad bought me a plain vanilla pudding pie and insisted to an inconsolable eight year old me that it was the same damn thing, but no sir, it was NOT.

I never saw a teenage mutant ninja turtle pie after that.

With the upcoming TMNT movie coming out, they HAVE to bring these back, right? Ok, maybe not, but I just sent my email to Hostess expressing my love and desire for more Turtle Pies. I encourage every one of you to do the same. We can do this!

My curiosity led me to the internet about 6 months back in search of information about turtle pies. I am the only person I know that remembers turtle pies. Oh, to only have one more. My husband thinks I am absolutely nutty! Does anyone think Hostess will reconsider now that the movie is coming back out? PRAY!!!

Ghosted by Patty @ 03/21/2007 6:56 PM EST

My husband has been searching for these Ninja Turtle pies FOREVER!! He was saddened to see this entry when I showed it to him……. It was devastating for him to see they will never make them again………… :-(

Man, turtles pies were the bomb back then. Along with those Ninja Turtle gummi candies that came in all kinds of crazy shapes. TMNT+lots of sugar=epic

Thanks for posting this, it really took me back to my childhood. I miss these things though I have to admit I’m sure the memorie is alot sweeter than if I were to get my hands on one today. I remember them being regular color on the outside with a neon green interior pudding though. Maybe someday some company somewhere will return the concept for these.

Ghosted by Toxic @ 04/03/2009 1:01 AM EST

I was about 1 or 2 when these pies came out. So until today i never heard about them. I got a text from my boyfriend asking me to google them, he wanted a box and thats when i came across this site. He was pretty upset about them not being made any more. He wants to settle for just plain vanilla pies from hostess but i dont think they even make those……

Ghosted by Ashley Rose @ 04/11/2009 11:21 PM EDT

PLEASE ONE OF YOU FIND A WAY TO BRING THESE BACK. I WROTE THIS COMPANY 3 EMAILS REGARDING THESE AND NEVER GOT A REPLY.

It’s not looking like Hostess makes vanilla pies anymore. I did find out mrsbairds.com makes vanilla pies seasonally. Those are only sold in Texas though.

Ghosted by Rigal Terra @ 05/21/2009 1:35 AM EDT

O MAN!!! my mom used to bring me these home from work everyday when I was a kid. I miss these so much! i would die in joy if they ever brought these back!!!

Ghosted by Jimmy @ 05/23/2009 6:02 AM EDT

I am so angry right now at Hostess. Who wants a pie filled with fruit anyway? All I want is a phuckin pie crust covered with icing (it doesnt even need to be green!) and filled with vanilla pudding. IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR????????!!!! wtf????!!! :)

Ghosted by TK @ 07/02/2009 4:04 PM EDT

Well, a revelation may have been had here. Almost, at least. I was at the store the other day, and noticed that Hostess now makes CHOCOLATE pudding pies. Chocolate! I remember eating these when I was a kid, and loving them. Perhaps a vanilla version is on its way to us? If so, they would probably be identical to the TMNT ones, minus the green coloring of course. We can only hope!
