My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

I got drunk with Optimus Prime.

Boy, last night was absolutely surreal. Brian and I attended the official launch party for that new Transformers Playstation game (also celebrating Transformers' 20th anniversary), marking the second party I've been to for this one particular video game. Held in midtown Manhattan in what looked to be either a really big photo studio or a modestly sized reception hall, it was a room full of Transformers nuts, plasma screens and loads of alcohol.

I had a chance to interview David Kaye, who's been voicing Megatron for nearly a decade now. Garry Chalk (Optimus) was there, but since I already did an interview with him, he was instead used for a very entertaining cigarette break buddy. Let me tell you, that guy is absolutely aces. Super nice and shitloads of fun. Anyone who'll smoke seventeen cigs in the rain, waxing philosophical about "Bride of Chucky" while doing Family Guy impressions is worth saying hello to. As for David, I'm not going to say too many nice things about him. I don't think it's fair that the dude who voices Megatron was the best looking guy at the party. Doesn't he have enough?

All in all, it was just an absolute blast. Of the soirees and galas of this type that I've been fortunate enough to attend, this was probably my favorite of all. On the other hand, I'm having trouble remembering most of it. Vague recollections were sprinkled through the morning hours, but by this afternoon, I was pretty sure that a good time was had. Full coverage on the event, along with the Prime and Megatron interviews plus four different Transformers DVD reviews will be up on UGO sometime next week. I'm going to have to negotiate my time on Easter Sunday between family and that episode of "Beast Wars" where poor Dinobot gets offed. Should be interesting.

Don't ask me how, but I ended up coming home with the drink menu:

Yeah, drinks named after Mini-Cons. My kind of party. Attendees also received gift bags, and since I need to archive a memory that's slowly fading, click "more" to see the freebies...

Goodies! Goodies for me!

Toonami watch. Because of the tins, everyone assumed these were just candles. We were such fools.

True story: I had gotten a different figure, but the package was all bent up so I traded it in for this one. The woman working the giftbag desk (amazing that they had a giftbag desk, but don't get too excited, it doubled as a coatcheck) happily exchanged my bent up toy for this one. Old habits die hard, but alas, I mashed it up to bits on the bus ride home.

Toonami T-shirt. One size fits most.

Dropbox stuff, because the theme of any Transformers party should be LOTS OF YELLING AND SCREAMING.

Toonami shoulderbag, which is pretty neat, actually. Very silky. You could make babies on it.

Demo for the game, in high-tech packaging.

Comics!

Stickers! I think I took more than I was supposed to. I always do when nobody's looking.

Art asset CD full of screenshots from the game and whatnot. I had Prime and Megsy sign it, because I was drunk and someone had a Sharpie.

Matt, a note on the "Atari" stickers:
you could not have taken enough.

Atari makes those stickers like prostitutes give blowjobs. I work at Blockbuster/GameRush, I should know. We get WAY too many of those stickers. At first, we were gviing them out to customers, but the damn things were still piling up, so we had to throw them away. Whenever we see those stickers, something in all of us dies.

On the bright side, I could probably redecorate my room with nothing but those stickers.

What’s the matter? Couldn’t they think of a drink for Dead End?
He’s the only Minicon I have (let alone ever seen besides pics)

Aside:
My Optimus Prime article is done.. between him and Unicron I think I have the best Transformers ever made!
(until we get Altenators at my local Walmart)

Wow, sounds like a wicked time. Sigh, the only experience I’ve had similar is when I met George Foremen. All I could says was that I really liked his grill.

On a hilarious side note: It was mothers day and my bro and I pitched in and bought a talking frame from Radio Shack. The only picture that we could find small enough where it was just our faces was the one with George. So we made a copy and cut it up. So there is me and my bro and on my shoulder is a big black hand. Ha!!! Still makes me laugh. Love ya Ma!!!!

Lucky you, Matt. It’s fortunate that you live in New York where cool stuff like this happens, and you just happen to have the right kind of site to get in the door.

As for me, I spend my schoolyear in the shitty town of Langley, BC Canada. And I spend my summers in the shithole city of Sacramento (no offense to Robert Berry intended). Nothing happens in either place, which is why my life is boring.

Oops..that last post was by me, not Matt (blushes).

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a Thundercats convention for their anniversary/video game release?! Damn I’d love to see that! Jealous & Envy aren’t the words for it Matt! Been lovin’ this site since the xwrestling days! Keep up the great, fun, work, it always rocks!

Wow, great stuff, Matt! Wished I was there…

BTW, does the photo studio in the first pic remind anyone else of the place Tom Hanks lived at in "Big" (with the pinball machines n stuff)?

Sounds like a killer time, oh all the cool things one gets to do with a nostalgia web page. I have a quick question. I’ve been dying to find a chrome decepticon piece to replace the symbol on the front of my car, does anyone know where i could find one?

It is hard to describe the amount of jealousy I am experiencing right now. Now I’m just in a horrible mood. My dog just came in the room and looked and me and I was like "fuck off" under my breath.

I join the ranks of the envious. I know it is best that I could never go, however. If I got drunk there, I would never have left Garry Chalk alone.

"Say, ‘That’s just prime’…come on…say it..SAY IT!"

My day just got longer and my cubical, 10 shades greyer. Need an apprentice?

I have one question…Does the game look any good?

Chestnuts roasted by Stilewalker @ 04/12/2004 10:00 AM

Wow, Matt – that is so cool man! It must be fun to be able to go to things like that for "work". ;^)

I am really excited about the TF game. There are a few good ones coming out this year for PS2, but I think this one takes the cake.

Wow, I think most of the people that read this site would consider that party the experience of a lifetime! If I could meet any voice actor though I’d love to meet Frank Welker who voiced about ten million different cartoon characters as Matt has pointed out on the site.

Phenominal…someday, perhaps, I can have a job as fly as Matt’s.

Chestnuts roasted by Lonewolf @ 04/12/2004 8:06 PM

…why is Aftershock not Aftershock? The mini-con already has a drink named after him…

The first time I got seriously drunk, it was on aftershock. That stuff honestly both looks and tastes like windshield wiper fluid… or maybe antifreeze.

Chestnuts roasted by Silkenray @ 04/13/2004 2:36 PM

that sounds like the most magickal party ever.

Chestnuts roasted by M. ALICE @ 04/14/2004 5:16 PM

hey matt is there a way to get those same kind of insignia stickers like those if so could you post it?

Chestnuts roasted by reso @ 04/15/2004 1:45 AM

That rocks big time. How come He-Man can’t be backed up like that. I heard TDK interactive were making a MOTU game. Anyone else know more than me?

Just to stir some creative juices, any chance of writing something about M.A.S.K (remember that?!)
