Gummi Bears Toy Commercial.

Working on a new article now, should be up late this afternoon. Meantime, here's some stuff to keep y'all occupied. For like two whole minutes.

Hey now, it's the Gummi Bears. You remember the Gummi Bears, I'm sure. Pioneers of the "Disney Afternoon," these furry folk fought giant ogres by drinking juice and making twboingky sounds as they hopped. It waddn't no Duck Tales, but the show served its purpose. Merchandise ran the usual gamut, but probably the most popular items were the above shown plushies, by Fisher Price. Just your standard stuffed animals -- no wacky light-up eyes or internal battery-operated voice boxes, but come on, Gummi Bears didn't need to sink to such levels. Leave that shit for Goof Troop. Click here to download the commercial!

A handful of older X-E articles plucked for your perusal: Double Dragon Movie Review - Return of the Jedi Play-Doh Set - Hulk market, Hulk smash - Vending Machine Toys Feature

UGO and Columbia Pictures are doing a pretty cool contest for Hellboy -- Click here if you're into it. Grand prize is a vacation, a shitload of electronics and more Hellboy swag than should possibly be allowed to exist. These contests are legit and you don't get spammed or frigged with, so I've got no problem sending traffic its way. Good luck, X-E usually nails one or two winners when I link this stuff.

When I was like 2 I used to think the Gummi Bears and the Paw Paw Bears were the same show. I had the collection of the figures from the Kellog’s promotion.

Gummibears was sweet (pun totally intended) Tummy was the man, even if he was a stereo type and (here comes the cross over) clone of Hunk from Voltron (and Broadway from Gargoyles was also a hunk clone.) Now as we all know Hunk piloted the Yellow Lion, was a mechanic, and ate alot. Originally Sven Piloted the Blue Lion , but at some point he sprained his leg and decided to open a hotel with the mice.

Now as for Vehicle Voltron, I was doing a little research (after fixing my own voltron) and Discovered that Vehicle Voltron was labled by Matchbox as Voltron I, where as the Lion Voltron was labled as Voltron III. Where is Voltron II then you may ask? well aparently it’s composed of 3 smaller humanoid robots, a red a black and a green bot. Don’t worry I didn’t remeber it either.

Hellpop! – Thanks for shedding a little more light on this Voltron situation. Now that you say it, I remember that there were sea and air vehicles, they just escaped my mind. I remember the team up episode too! *drools*

Up to the minute update!

Ok just now checking out stuff. I sugest finding the Voltron episode "Fleet of Doom" which actually teams up the Lion Voltron and the Vehicle Voltron!

Trippy, I had two of the three robots of Voltron II as seen in this photo:

I don’t think the US ever got the cartoon: http://members.xoom.virgilio.it/inferno17/robot-arbegas.htm

Trippy, Hunk was a part of a long proud tradition in anime: the Stereotypical Fivesome. Leader guy, second in command guy, big guy, little guy, and girl. From Voltron, to Battle of the Planets (where you had Mark, Jason, Tiny, Keyop and Princess) and even Speed Racer (Speed, Sparky, Pops, Spritle and Trixie).

While looking at Richard’s link, I noticed that American companies are not the only ones who chop up shows.

The Japanese have an interesting take on Spider-Man.

I used to watch gummi bears all the time. I always liked the little guy, Cubbie I think.

As far as Jello Pops go it says the market down the street from me has them. Guess where I’m going after work tomorrow. I haven’t had a pudding pop since summer of 98. My old job actually had a vending machine that sold them. Man that was a cool job.

Chestnuts roasted by Beerstalker @ 03/30/2004 12:54 PM

Earlier I was really psyched about the pudding pop reappearence, so I was using that store locator thing trying to find out where I could get some pudding pops. Turns out that the closest stores are around 80 miles away. I hate Indiana. :(

Apparently I used to watch Voltron a lot, but I don’t remember it. I had a toy of the Voltron though, it had a yellow rubbery spear thing I chewed on. I only remember that I watched it mostly because my mom still teases me how I had a crush on Keith and would stand there repeating the name… bah, I had bad taste as a four-year-old. I wonder how good it would be, seeing it nowadays…

Now that I have successfully, though unintentionally, changed the stream of comments towards Voltron…
In second grade I used to fight with a kid named Andy about who would be Keith when we played Voltron and I guess he was a little cooler because he usually did. I remember he had hairy arms. In second grade. Weird.

Matt:
Homie Clowns are legit Homies. Check out http://www.homies.tv to verify.

I like Homies. My left stereo speaker is covered with them, including one that prays to a massive cross and one with a pet iguana.

I can’t wait to make the trip home to Louisville this weekend- pudding pops! None in Bowling Green. pout. Are they only listed at Winn-Dixies everywhere else, too?

Agent: I wouldn’t clasify the Japanese Spiderman as a chop job, per se, since it was a completely unrelated show that just used the name and costume. If they had redubbed the American episodes, on the other hand…well, then they probably would have been better. ;)

Matt – only thing that those Gummi Bears are missing is rubber asses.

I remember the Gummi Bears. Wasn’t the fat one voiced by Lorenzo Music?

Anyhow they still paled in comparison to the Popples. Nothing beats a Popple.

Chestnuts roasted by Robert S @ 03/30/2004 1:14 PM

Gummy Bears was one of those shows that, like Smurfs and Shirt Tales, just got super boring after a while. I remember watching it a lot at first and enjoying it, and then eventually dreading seeing it after a while.

Voltron, on the other hand, I couldn’t get enough of. I was a huge G Force fan, and I always looked at Voltron like the follow-up to G Force in the evolutionary chain. I never saw the cartoon with the vehicular Voltron, but I remember a friend of mine having a number of the toy vehicles for it.

Tummi was Mr. Music’s Gummi. But, who was the Bad Guy’s voice? He was the same dude who narrated the Dragon’s Lair game. By the by, I just read somewhere that a version of the game is available for playing on DVD. When researching Battle of the Planets/G-Force/Eagle Riders/Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, be ready for the bizarre truth about Zoltar/Berg Katse. Two, two, two people trying to occupy the same space!

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 03/30/2004 3:07 PM

Holy shit, Lorenzo Music got around! Rhoda, the Real Ghostbusters, Garfield, and now the Gummy Bears? Wasn’t he also one of Charlie’s Angels? Or was that Shelley Hack…

Chestnuts roasted by Robert S @ 03/30/2004 3:13 PM

I do recall "Gummie Bears." I watched it because I love bears, but like many of you, it quickly got boring for me, especially when put up with the much better "Duck Tails" and "Tale Spin." I think it’s partially because I’m not a big fan of the type of sword-and-sorcery fantasy the show was based around. Lorenzo Music as the big, goofy bear was awesome, though. He was my favorite character on the show.

I was also a "Voltron" fan back in the day, although we never had the toys (they were majorly expensive and kind of rare in this neck of New Jersey). I liked the red driver. I always liked any character with red hair or a red outfit, because red was (and is) my favorite color.

Quick thought, Mr. Wizard.

Chestnuts roasted by Phil @ 03/30/2004 3:47 PM

wow, i actually had all the vehicles for voltron 2. then i put the box in my closet and soemhow lsot most of them :( .

that and a really cool board game i ahd, with ships that shot little poker chips at each other and blew up.

I sucked keeping my toys safe when i was a kid.

Homie Clowns are authentic, but they look so corny. I much prefer the Homies that Just happen to Be clowns, Like the DJ one or the guy in the wheelchair….ummm… heh, ok so he’s not a clown, but he is my favorite Homie.
