03/25/2004: New Article: The Ultimate Modulok Tribute!
A rewrite of a rewrite of a rewrite, here is my final tribute to Modulok, the Masters of the Universe/Princess of Power villain with twenty-two interchangeable parts, including two heads, six legs, six arms and a couple of tails. Loved this thing more than you could ever imagine. Feature includes a look at the toy, the character, the commercial, the instruction manual and the box. A whole lotta Modulok, Modulok, Modulok. Easily one of my top ten favorite toys throughout childhood, this was the ultimate He-Man figure. or was it She-Ra? Mosdoasodosdodulok.

Wow, Modulok!
To me, Modulok always belonged to MOTUverse, since I’ve only seen him in comics… Now, I’m off to read te article!

You spread a disease Matt. After reading your May 2000 article I rushed out (and by out I mean onto Ebay) to buy one of my own. At 19 years of age, I’d still rather play with my Modulok than visit my family!

I never had a ton of MOTU toys (3 3/4 G.I. Joes something like a $1 and a smile in the late 80s, then it was all about Ninja Turtles), but my childhood bestfriend did…as well as everyother toy that had a television show or movie.
The point? HE MIGHT STILL HAVE SOME OF THIS STUFF! LET’S STORM HIS HOUSE! THE INTERNET IS COMING FOR YOU ZACH!

Wow, I need one now. Those pictures of Modulok in various bodily contortions were most fascinating and made my own fingers itch. My solution? I grabbed the only thing in my dorm that beared some resemblance: my molecular model kit. It’s colourful, plastic-y, and makes a snapping/popping sound when I put pieces together.
Screw digital camera. I’m getting meself a Modulok.

About your "emglulfnabetz" word that you’ve got in the title bar today…I’m probably the only one who knows the origin of that word. It appeared in a comic book ad for Reeses’ Pieces in the mid-80’s. Yes, "Jurisprudence" was in it.

a good friend of mine had a Modulok figure. He was always in my Transformers vs. He-Man vs. GI-Joe vs. Ninja Turtles battles, but he would always die first. He always died first because he was the perfect little skittering scout, and when Starscream would spot him, he would transform into a jet and blow him to pieces. How many toys do you know that can actually get blown to pieces?
The artcle is great, as usual, Matt. I especially love the Modulok snake thingy you made. In hindsight, I should have had him piece back together after being blown apart.

Wow, Modulok. He was like the Holy Grail of MOTU figures to me. In fact, Modulock was the only way my parents could convince me to go through with the dental surgery I had to have as a kid. If I did it, I got Modulok, ok. Letting people slice open my mouth seemed like a fair trade. I even distinctly remember halucinating little modulok heads in an infinite line all converging on a centerpoint in front of my eyes as they put me under with the gas mask. At that moment, the deal was starting to feel a lot less fair. Anyway, got my modulok, played with him for nearly 4 days before I lost interest… Stupid ADD.

Yeah, Modulok kicked ass.
The message I am about to communicate has nothing to do with this post, but it IS important. Or at least it is to me.
It is about the dangers of drugs. It is a story that I was a part of. Be forewarned, this story is emotionally intense.
It all started two days ago when two friends of mine had been talking and taking amphetamines (aka Speed) for 17 hours straight.
Later I came in along with another friend and this one girl and we had shrooms and speed. We went out to a forest area, tripping out of our minds. The girl was freeaking out, two of my friends were acting like dumbasses, another one of them (the one that’s most significant in this story and makes an awesome choice), and I was solid gone (although I had enough sense to realize what was happening, which never happened before). She eventually ran off on her own.
When we got back to our house (where my buddy and I live), people we knew, including two people whom we had also taken drugs with, started coming over and such. One of my friends decided to call the girl’s house but she wasn’t there, which scared us and so a group went looking for her. We eventually realised that she probably went to someone’s house to rest as she was coming down of the panic attack just before she took off.
We were unable to converse with each other, period, because our minds were not entirely straight. Furthermore, my friend, who had not slept for the past two days while doing drugs, was beginning to lose weight, hydration, conciousness, and sanity.
It was this particualr friend who really came through in the end,
because eventually it got so intense that it got to the point in which my friend decided that this was it. He took his entire stash of drugs and flushed them down the toilet, and finally made it clear that he was off the drugs and wants everyone to hold him accountable. He had also made it clear that he hoped others would go forth with this idea and do the same. Everyone there who had been doing drugs, decided to follow my friend in his ways.
I will tell you that I started out with weed, but I eventually got tired of it and moved on to harder drugs. It all lead up to this night in which I, as well as many other friends, had an epiphany.
I’m not here to tell all of you readers what to do, or what you should do, because I know you’re all smart enough to decide for yourself. I’m just bringing you a true story that I saw with my own two eyes.

Chestnuts roasted by
Nate @ 03/27/2004 9:33 AM EST
Further note:
When I said that we weren’t able to converse with each other at all, I did exaggerate. We were able to converse somewhat, just not very clearly.

Chestnuts roasted by
Nate @ 03/27/2004 9:35 AM EST
I should also add that the final culmination of the event took place just last night, and I’ve been pretty shook up and haven’t slept since, so some of the details of my story (such as time), may not make any sense. But let me assure you, it’s still a true story.

Puttin’ in a good word for you and your buds with the spirits, man. Just another reason why I don’t use. Been a witness to that terrible moment when those frightning words were said, "Do you know what you did last night?" Remembering what you did, but not knowing why might be worse. This may not sound lke much of a bright side, but, this is a Quantum Universe, There are much, much harsher ways to learn your lesson. Trust me on that one, my sister died once already, she had to clean herself up after that. Now, over twenty years later, she has a good husband, two sons, and is in Iraq routing supply requests to the proper people and making sure every one gets what they need. She’s never been one to let something like minor brain damage slow her down. Give strength to your friends, they’re as much your family as your blood relations, and they’ll share theirs with you. And you always have this merry band of knuckleheads to lift your spirits. Well, enough of that, back to business. What do we want? Chia! When do we want it? Don’t rush yourself on our account!

Um, anyway, back to toys that you can pull off all their limbs and reattach them, creating a horrific mutant thing. (Well, you can do this with most toys but the gimmick with the one’s we’re talking about is that you’re *supposed* to.) I seem to recall a very short lived *PLUSH* variation on this theme. All the characters were cute animals and you could merrily rip their limbs off and stick them (with Velcro) on each other’s bodies. Anybody remember what they were called or -better yet- know of any information online about them?

Anyone who saw one of those things coming towards them would probably go insane immediately.

I remember that was the last MOTU Christmas of my life, that is untill 2001. I also recieved Extendar and Spikor that year. It was certainly a cool experience.

HOOOLY CRAP! I forgot that I had this character until I saw your site. I had nearly the entire MOTU set including castle grayskull, battlecat, etc. I have tried to rehash my memories of what characters I had against others who collected…I praise you for jogging my memory wit hyour modulok article…
Sadly, all of my MOTU figures were sold at a yard sale when I was 12. God I wish I could have those back now =(
anyways nice article and AWESOME F"N SITE!!!!!

GREAT TRIBUTE TO MODULOK!! I loved that toy too.
I remember way back when, some kid standing next to me in the action figure aisle at KB Toys said "Look Dad! It’s Modulok!!" And his father kept correcting him WRONGLY, saying "no son, it’s "moe-DOO-lock"
and all i could do was shake my 8-yr-old head…
anyway, terrific page, I’m passing it on…

Well, you’re not the only one Modulok fan in the world: my brother also is. In fact, in the 80’s, Modulok was the only He-Man figure he owned, as his favorite. As for me, I owned my favorite as well, Stinkor, along with the awsome Panthor. We still own them today, absolutely complete and in almost perfect condition (I say “almost”, because Stinkor’s leg elastic is sadly drying). Modulok and Stinkor forever!
