New Article: Garbage Pail Kids “Tacky Snappers!”

The Garbage Pail Kids return to X-Entertainment with a review of Imperial's GPK Tacky Snappers. What were they? I dunno...some kinda slime wands with character-shaped handles. I think. The article features a hands-on look at the beasts, plus a bonus section that rewrites an old blog entry about GPK's assortment of "Cheap Toys & Crummy Candy." I've been dying to open this stupid Tacky Snapper for like a year now. Now that I have, I'm not sure what to do with myself. Maybe I'll take up stained glass. When you're finished with that, feel free to go back and read my review of the unprecedented pile of torment known as Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie.

The only thing creepy about Phil Collins was his whole ‘Testify’ album… and the cover to his 1985 classic ‘No Jacket Required’. NJR’s cover art makes Phil look like some kind of holiday lightbulb.

Anyway, I hated these tacky snappers as a kid. Other children would have them and the snappers looked so revolting that they’d literally make me vomit :(

Hey, the "Land of Confusion" video kicked ass! How can one forget Ronald Regan as Superman? I also remember a "Spitting Image" special called "The Ronnie and Nancy Show" way back when…sort of along the lines of "That’s my Bush" but much better. Speaking of GPK, does anyone remember the GPK-like cards with dinosaurs? They were basically cartoon cards of dinosaurs mutilating humans….most of ‘em made the GPKs look tame.

this is sort of off topic but today I saw a boy in my class with a rock pencil! And he had taken good care of it too because the rocks were still inside and the pencil was sharpened almost up to the rock part. I was going to ask him where he got it but he usually fallls asleep during class anyway.

Phil is what Charlie Brown looks like all grown up.

Hey, Matt. Tech question. What do you use to get images off of video? Snappy?

Squee – there was an original release of Wacky Pack stickers back in the 70′s, and then they were re-done as Wacky Packages in the mid 80′s. The ones from the 80′s are practically worthless, but there are a few from the 70′s collection that can fetch a decent price, for a cheap little sticker.

Oh, and I was a *huge* fan of Spitting Image when I was younger. The Ron & Nancy show was great! Though there was probably some more subtle humor and political satire that was going on in it that I was too young to understand.

The 80′s had it going on with creative puppetry. One complaint I have of the take-over of digital animation is the loss of really good puppetry.

Woohoo! So I think it has been previously mentioned, but whatever I’m excited. Seasons 1 and 2 of Jem are being released on DVD! Yay! They come out on March 30th. AND Freaks and Geeks (not 80s, but still a great show) somes out on DVD on April 6th. I’m not leaving my TV for awhile…

Hello all,

This is my first post ever and wouldn’t you know it, it is completely and utterly off-topic.
Up here in Canada, we have a channel called Drive-In Classics and right now, they’re showing "The Devil’s Rain" starring William Shatner (a good Canadian boy) and Ernest Borgnine.
I agree that it sucks so bad it could suffocate everyone in the room. Just thought I’d get that off my chest.
X-E is one of my favourite (Canadian spelling) sites.
Talk to you later,
XP

I was obsessed with GPK when I was a kid, amassing several shoeboxes worth of GPK cards. But I never saw the GPK Slime things. I want one.

Smeged Have you ever read Matt’s review of "The Devil’s Rain"? It’s here, somewhere. Also, did you know that the mask William Shatner wore at the end was the mask Michael Myers wore in the "Halloween" movies? I learned that here, too. See, X-E increases your intelligence.

You know what woulda ruled? A GPK NES game. It’d be so rad if you had a wide selection of GPKs to play as too, each with their own special abilities (of course, the NES DID have its limitations). I don’t know what you’d do as far as villains go. I guess the enemies could be cleaning products, medication, or surgical tools, all of which are out to make the GPKs normal again. Hmmm…if only I knew how to do ROM hacking.

I still have a whole box of GPK stuff, including a few of the candy included figures and most of the GIANT GPK cards.

I had a couple of these when I was a kid. They always ended up breaking right next to the handle though. Finally my mom said no more, and would only buy me the cheap hands from the vending machines. Then she wouldn’t get those for me anymore because I would constantly smack my little sister in the face with them. Heh, heh, heh, that was hilarious.

Im a LTRFTP (thats a long time reader first time poster for those who arent good with acronyms). But um…yeah..in the mini figures pic i believe that was a Fruity Pebbles Fred Flinstone eraser…..i had like a bajillion of those. Sweet memories..im gonna go cry now.

I’m still kicking myself… I went to Italy when I was eight years old, and I found ITALIAN Garbage Pail Kids, and lost them. The only one I remember is Romeo Video. It was a kid playing a video game on a face that was a tv screen. This goes right along with my finding "Stooge" one of the McDonald’s Dick Tracy sweepstakes (where you peel a little sticker off of french fries, it was worth over $1000. Oh well…

smarties are basically the same as m & m’s. that first pic (as Aberration noted), looks like oral sex…

I loved Garbage Pail Kids… acutally I still do.. I have a few complete series.

And I also remember the cards with dinosaurs mutilalting humans. Thoes were classic. I didn’t even remember them until someone brought them up. My brother and I collected them. My mom was the coolest, she didn’t care about cards.
