New Article: The Polly-O String Cheese Commercial!

I'm not sure how many of you will remember this commercial, but around these parts it's one of the longtime faves. There's only one place in the world where kids call for extra cheese and held crusts, and it's the Polly-O String Cheese Ad, famous for its wacky pizza parlor, strange customers, John Capodice and an assault on everything holy as Schjimi and the audience ponder life's greatest question: how can you have a pizza with nuttin? There's a download with the review, of course.

Hooray, time for a new holiday countdown. :)

Guess I didn’t mention how many or what new gooidies are out there huh?
Well let me just say there are over a million new easter chocolates. You’d better start booking your dentist apointments soon.
Matt are you planning on a special new theme for easter?

Definitely something, yeah. I’ll see what I can round up. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 02/19/2004 4:38 PM

Ha the best part of the pizza.

This commercial brought back another memory of mine:

Does anyone else remember that string cheese with the pizza sauce in the middle? What was it called?

Yeah I noticed Easter stuff in the stores already too. Candy, baskets, decorations, egg coloring kits, etc..

I remember when they stared a parrot rapping in later commercials the parrot was in a cage with a small cap on turn to the back with a gold rope on with a big charm on it. Do you have that commercial? I miss laughing atit

A commercial that stuck with me is a McDonalds one where the kids sit there and fiddle with the food. Like one moves the straw in a cup up and down and other things and it turns to a impromptu jam session. Dunno why,but it always stuck with me after…alot of years.

As soon as Wal-Mart gets those baskets with Knock-off Japanese robots in them, I’m looking for the fake Devastator I saw last year. Or the T-Rex with snap-on battle armor.

That’s not a real face. It can’t be a real face. It must be a latex mask, or Jim Henson or something. Look at how little it moves…

Chestnuts roasted by Rogue Scholar @ 02/19/2004 6:09 PM

Schjimi seems to be of Sullustian descent there.

Chestnuts roasted by Alpha Centaurian @ 02/19/2004 6:16 PM

I remember the cheese with the sauce in the middle, but I can’t remember what it was called…

Probably because something like that is marketed solely to the damn chunk biters.

is there something terribly wrong with the blonde boy’s face?

I feel left out. My hardware firewall doesn’t let me get viruses.

C’mon, Matt. Pardon my French, but it’s "C’est si bon." Or, in English, "SO GOOD!"

Chestnuts roasted by Monster Dog @ 02/19/2004 6:35 PM

That’s not what Fred thinks.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 02/19/2004 6:36 PM

I, myself, was a string puller, not a lazy chunk biter. Born in ’82, I would have been 3 or so when this baby popped onto the teli. So, whether I ever saw it and loved it for what it is would be far embedded in my subconscious along with the other memories from the younger years. Still, I can see how this commercial in its heyday would just be taken lightly and never thought of twice…until now. Thank Gawd for Polly-O…and Schjimi.

That’s hilarious. I still find http://www.x-entertainment.com/messages/522.html">this to be the best article Matt’s ever written. :)

Now, is Matt a string puller or a chunk biter? Eh?

Though I first thought of the parrot rapping Polly-O commercial when I saw this mentioned on the main X-E page, I do remember both commercials. I was strictly a string-puller on the rare occasions we got these as kids, but now, it doesn’t matter. It’s all cheese, no matter where you bite into it. I don’t often eat them now, either, because they still aren’t cheap. I will occasionally buy them on when they’re on sale, but that happens once in a blue, pink, and purple moon.

The small grocery store where I work was still clearing out its Valentine’s candy the last time I was there (I’ve had the last two days off), but I’m going to assume they didn’t lump giant heart-shaped boxes of candy into carts with hand printed half-price signs taped to them to make room for food that’s good for you.

Easter Egg alert: click the word "pizza" in the article logo, it links back to an old TMNT review.

Chestnuts roasted by Secret Searcher @ 02/19/2004 9:29 PM

Okay, I LOVE string cheese! LOVE IT! So what if I eat so much of it I get constipated! I don’t care! By the way, I’m a "strand puller" for all you lady strand pullers out there.

Sadly, if this commercial was out in 1985-1986, I was 2-3 years old, so I don’t remember it. But wow, they knew X-E would be reviewing this commerical nearly 20 years later. I mean, "Week Old Pizza: Half Off?" They knew this commercial would have a cult following.

I was laughing so hard, I almost peed all over the pile of Polly-O string cheese sitting in front of me. Strand puller.

Chestnuts roasted by Darth Monkey @ 02/19/2004 9:36 PM

Definitely strand puller for the first quarter of the string cheese… then it’s all chunk biting, baby! …Chunk biting… Where’s Sloth when you need him?

Chestnuts roasted by Nachokhaki @ 02/19/2004 9:49 PM

"Nuuuuutin?!" That’s gonna live with The Worst Witch among the best on X-E. :)

Chestnuts roasted by God Animagnus @ 02/19/2004 10:02 PM

Strand puller, that’s meeeeee! However, in my town, they only seem to sell a cheap version that refuses to pull apart easily. It’s got some cheese-man with punk hair for the mascot.

Welcome to my personal hell.
