12/08/2003: Advent Calendar: December 7th & 8th!

Once again, all caught up. December 7th’s entry includes my review of Fluffy Stuff’s “Snowballs” cotton candy, an old ABC Saturday morning Christmas commercial, and a new scarf for Ms. Mare. For December 8th, we’ve got “Berry Chill” Bubble Tape, a Crayola Christmas ad, and a certain broom for a certain plastic snowman. Now that that’s taken care of, I can finally get to that snowy cartoon I’ve had on deck to review for the past week. Will be up sometime today, OK OK OK?

Hey, I got crayons in my stocking every year, too.

Keep that Christmas crap coming. It’s great! XD

Damn, I never got crayons for Hanukka! Maybe i should convert and then i can have my fun….

I knew they were going to give Mista Snowman a broom. The groovy folks at Playmobil seem to really love taking comsumers for a ride. A scarf and hat??? WTF? I agree that Mare needs "coverage" but they could have put them in the same box as her. Yet, I still want to go out and try to find this thing. I think spending the weekend buried under 2 feet of white s*** has screwed with my brain.

If you ever feel the need for some Haim Saban/Shuki Levy created pop check out this Kidd Video site:

The "You Better Run" video encapsulates what people either love or hate about the ME decade. Robbie Rist (Cousin Oliver from the Brady Bunch and Michaelangelo’s voice in the Ninja Turtle movies) never sounded so good:

I meant that Robbie Rist never sounded as good as he did here.

I didn’t think I’d have as much fun with this calendar. But now I wish we could get the blasted Playmobil Advent Calendar toy thingie down here! I mean, come on, there’s no denying: who here does not want their very own Mista Snowman?!?!?

Ghosted by Roddy @ 12/08/2003 10:52 AM EST

I was hoping that mista snowman was gonna get one of those wands like almost all the mare’s got last year. That way he could be magical and cast a spell on bird to attack mare. ;) btw, I finnally got fed up by not knowing who mare winningham was, and searched for her on google. ya wanna know what I found out? I’ve never seen any of the 3047 movies she’s been in since 2000, not to mention the 50568345 she was in in the 90’s.

I just love the advent calendar but the only problem is I want to save the Playmobile goodness till the end so I have to cover that section of the screen when I’m reading the first column. Saving the best for last.

Hey, how much snow did you all get? Here in mid-Jersey we got buried by over a foot. I love how somebody in our neighborhood must have pissed off someone in the municipal government, since they never ever ever plow our roads. Woohoo.

And Matt, I have to say, if you braved that storm just for cotton candy snow and red hots, you’re a better man than I. (Okay, I braved it too, but only to get from the office Christmas party to the little woman’s apartment for some snow-in time… a rather more tempting reward than stale candy.)

I never got crayons in my stocking, but one year I did get some comic books. This started my obsession with Wolverine, Gambit, Punisher, and the like.

I guess I should be thankful my parents didn’t give me crack instead.

Matt, did you measure the bubble tape to see if it actually was 10 feet?

Ghosted by J-Dog @ 12/08/2003 11:47 AM EST

I remember tryin to stuff one of those 10 foot gum things into my face all at once back in the hayday, and believe you me, i almost died from sugary goodness overdose syndrome… and not being able to breathe.

That snowball cotton candy looks like that stuff those white cottony Christmas tree skirts are made of. I agree Matt I hate when Networks promice a holday themed block and you watch a show about a snow storm or something and it has nothing to do with the holiday season.

I hope Mista Snowman gets a shotgun by day 12 so we can see the end of one miss Mare Winningham!

WOW, thank you to ME for the Kidd Video link… thought i was the only one that remembered this one, but i guess not!

If there ever was a show most deserving of an X-E article, Kidd Video would be it.

Ghosted by Luap @ 12/08/2003 2:14 PM EST

Agree’s with above poster. Amen to that, I could never remember the name of that cartoon until reading that site. All I could remember was that there was a real-life band at the beginning, they go into the cartoon world, and they fight cats. Oh, and they sing some song (in real-life) at the end of every episode.

BTW how many more Matts can we get on this board?!? My name is Matt too.

Has anyone else realized that the snowy fence was for bird. But its ok he stole the sled from Mare Winningham, the stupid broad.

We’ve reached a new plateau here at X-E. We’ve discovered something Matt won’t put in his mouth.

i dont think he ate the old chef boyardee either…

Ghosted by heeloyd @ 12/08/2003 8:22 PM EST

(Starwenn ducks all 800 balls of real and cotton candy snow thrown her way.) Southeastern New Jersey got a lot of rain, ice, and wind, but barely a dusting of snow. There’s a tiny bit on the grass, not even enough to cover it. We didn’t get anywhere close to the snowfall that so many of you up north did.

I can actually understand why so many "holiday"-themed cartoons are more concerned with snow than Santa. It’s a lot easier to get droids, Ewoks, and super heroes involved with the fluffy white stuff than Santa Claus and reindeer. Not that some of them didn’t figure out imaginative ways to manage a special holiday extravaganza (witness the He-Man/She-Ra and Pac-Man specials on Matt’s Top 11 Christmas specials list), but not everyone handles the holidays with that degree of imagination. And most "Star Wars" fans know what happened the last time George Lucas tried to more blantantly capitalize on the holidays…

Am I the only one having trouble getting to the entry for the 7th?

Ghosted by tryptophan36 @ 12/08/2003 10:08 PM EST

OK, so this was the 1st potentially non-lethal thing Matt hasn’t put in his mouth.

We got over 2 feet of snow here. I am about 15 miles south of Boston. Snowed from Friday until late yesterday afternoon. What a pain. A lot of the roads out here are still under. Even the main roads are crappy.
I braved the roads to go to the store tonight and while in the XMas candy aisle I saw a couple of things I was convinced belonged on X-E. One was these clear lolipops that have characters from either Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or Santa Claus is Coming to Town like inside them. It’s like still shots from the XMas specials. The other candy I cannot remember exactly for the life of me, but I swear it was something great. I can go back and get some tomorrow and will be plenty happy to send them to Matt for research purposes…just gotta know what to do as far as sending.

Remember those old commercials for Bubble Tape about people who won’t try or hated Bubble Tape like the one about the principal and bus driver? It went "Your principal can’t smile, can’t swim, can’t rap," then it’s followed by him saying "I can’t stand Bubble Tape." The bus driver segment went "Your bus driver can’t drive, wears curlers, makes funny noises, won’t try Bubble Tape."

Bubble Tape is okay but I preferred Dubble Bubble and Bubble Yum. You could make bigger bubbles with those.
