09/30/2003: Halloween Oreos?

The Countdown’s been updated with a fast look at a fast cookie — Nabisco’s new Halloween Oreos!  It’s September 30th — we’re on the cusp of October, and finally, the weather wizards around here have realized that it’s no longer summer.  I swear we hit 90° this past weekend, so my attempt to break out the fall sweater collection was met with perspiration and depression..but NOW IT’S COLD AND NOBODY CAN TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME.  The real pisser is, we keep praying for fall weather, and once it hits, all we’re gonna think about is how much we miss summer.  Seriously, that’s all we’ll think about.  Not work, not what’s for dinner, not our families and loved ones — just a constant pining for warm weather.  Still, that comes later — it’s cold, and nobody can take that away from me.  Nobody, baby!

NOBODY!!!

I got the second comment.  And yet…no one will care…

By the way Matt, loved the latest article with Krang.  I’m also looking forward to an upcoming article about that haunted forest or whatever.  Your adventures and toy adventure articles are my favorites.  Keep up the great work!

"satanacookies"? That is the best term ever.  It probably applies to most of the Oreo incarnations

oreo’s have taken over my town!  don’t let it happen to you, be prepared!

I dunno, I’ve tried these things.  They don’t particularly taste much like the originals.  I think I’ll just stick with them instead.

Anyone remember the Chocolate Chip/Orange icecream?  The icecream that was like neon orange, and tasted like vanilla, but had choclate chips in it?

Posted by Tyrion Xavier @ 09/30/2003 11:32 AM EDT

Orange cream.  Why don’t they just burn in hell for this.

My dad buys all the colored cream ones thinking they are different flavors, but they all taste like the white cream. Except the ones that are labeled as a different flavor.

I can’t find cocoa bats anywhere?!!! Are they not in Canada? Or just not in my small town…?

Have seen both the Cocoa Bats and the Halloween Oreos at the Acme. Haven’t tried either, though I may spoil my brother with the bats if I can get him over here before Halloween. If the incredible haul of candy we had post-Easter is any indication, I’d better get used to seeing this stuff. We were literally giving away Cadburys for days after the holiday.

It’s finally gotten cooler here in Southern New Jersey as well, but that’s not the only indication that fall has finally arrived. Most of the stores on the Boardwalk are on their last weekends, and several other places have posted October closing notices. Leaves are falling, I can keep the windows closed all day without turning my apartment into a sweatbox. But, most of all, it’s quiet. No tourists. No busses. No conventions. No noise. Just the occasional burst from the neighbors. It’s wonderful. And nobody can take THAT away from me.

Boy, if I could eat chocolate without having a heart attack or becoming a bloated wal-matee, I’d be all over those cocoa bats and pumpkin-colored oreos. *sigh* I shouldn’t have eaten so much as a child…

I agree. I love the heat, but everyone bitching about "Blah! We need rain in Oregon! Blah, I miss the cold!" Yet as soon as it comes, they’ll be bitching and claiming I didn’t do enough to keep the warmth around. Damn you all!

Sure is a slow posting day.  I feel like some Halloween treats but I can’t see myself driving out to a store and spending my own money on it.  I should see if I can get some of the other people that live here to go get it.

Re: slow posting — yeah, unfortunately, between the articles and the Countdown, I haven’t been able to plug the bloggy as much off the main page this month. :(  No worries, I will!

Posted by Matt @ 10/01/2003 1:56 AM EDT

Heh, all the other articles got their share of posts though, then this one is just slow.  Maybe too many people are confused by the orange cream.

And isn’t there some Captain Planet Halloween special about the evils of candy or something?  If not, there sure should be.

Posted by Elliott @ 10/01/2003 2:04 AM EDT

I…require those Cocoa Bats. I’ve told my housemates about them, and 4 out of six of them agree: WE MUST HAVE THEM. We have scoured every grocery store in our area, and have yet to find them ANYWHERE. Acme is obviously an east coast store, but I’m having a hell of a time trying to figure out what it’s west-coast equivalent is - do they carry Kroger products? Safeway? Anything like that?

…anybody? *sobs* I require marshmallow bat shaped goodness…

Well, we have a corner candy store and when we bought our Hallowe’en candy to fill the trick-or-treaters’ bags, they still didn’t have the Peep Bats there yet, and last year they carried them. Maybe they just haven’t arrived in all parts of the known world. Where’s Marco Polo when you need him?

Am I the only one who thinks that pumpkin flavored frosting on a chocolate oreo waffer actually sounds good?  I know pumpkin pie is an acquired taste but I know there are other wise souls who enjoy the stuff.  But now every time I think of pumpkins I think of that vomiting pumpkin picture.

I’d just like to say that the Demolition reference was refreshing. It made me dig up all my old WWF tapes. Ah, if only I could go back in 1989, when leg and elbow drops were king.

Cocoa Bats can be purchased online!

They also sell something called Creepy Peeps, which sounds vaguely pornographic.

To the tune of the Oreo theme song:
"Oh oh oh.  Who’s that fucktard with Oreo cookie?  Slobbering on the shitty chocolate, slathering all the orange middle.  There he is with his doctors and O-R-E-O. Nabisco (bing!)."

I know that was really immature of me, but I really hate Oreos.  I mean, the cream is good and all, but the canker sores in my mouth taste better than what Nabisco calls chocolate.  It’s OK if you guys disagree with me on this.

However, I absolutely LOVE peeps.  Normally, i hate marshmallowy stuff.  But there’s just a certain quality to peeps.  But I can only eat so many of them.  And since they throw in chocolate with the Cocoa Bats, I doubt that I could finish even one of those no matter how good they are (and I’m sure they’re pretty damn good).

I am a sick man, but I think pumpkin creme-flavored oreos would taste good. I would try them, anyway.
