New Article: Freddy Krueger Toyzzzz!

New Article: Meant to have this one in before the movie hit, but one of the items took too long to get here. It was a Nightmare. HHHAHAHH. Today's article takes an in-depth and firsthand and burned-flesh look at three of Freddy Krueger's strangest toys, ranging from head-shaped water guns to naked man dolls with snap-on Freddy accessories. Also, this week's shorter-than-usual Top 11 covers some of the strangest animated spinoffs ever, from Back To The Future to a Gilligan's Island set in outer space. Mmm hmm. By the way, I'm officially sick of summer. I want my dead leaves now.

Yeah, Egon…. His hair is actually a crepe.

But my personal favorite spinoff was The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley show. Count Floyd, The Freebuses, Wendell & Roger, Sheldon, the kid that could perfectly imitate other people’s voices. And of course, Miss Malone. Ah….Miss Malone. So sexy… So…O’Hara..?

So I visited i-mockery and read the Top 10 Freddy Kills list and decided to surf around since I hadn’t visited i-mockery in a while. A lot of people seem to consider F13 VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan the http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/Jason-NYC/default.asp">worst film in the series. But, dude, F13 IX: Jason Goes to Hell. The fuck? With the voodoo tables and the short, hairy gnome S&M and suddenly the Vorhees were the nouveau riche with the spacious homes and the antique Queen Anne furniture?

Matt,
You say about the Real Ghostbusters cartoon having Garfield’s voice in Peter Venkman’s body… Does anyone else see the irony in having Bill Murray supply the lead voice in the new Garfield movie?

I laughed for what seemed like 3 seconds when I heard about that one…

I’m surprised that the Toxic Avenger spin-off "Toxic Crusaders" didn’t make the list. Hearing Lloyd Kaufman talk about his R rated horror film being made into an eco-friendly Saturday morning cartoon was one fo the funniest experiences I’ve had.

Along the same lines as Toxie, anyone here watch the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes cartoon? That was a weird one too (I still get a kick out of the fact that John Astin voiced his character).

Oh wow, Beakman’s World. Holy crap, that would be one of those "Watched on Saturday Mornings as a Kid, Forgot, Remembered, Missed".

So I’ll present another:
BRING BACK EEK THE CAT!

*still doesn’t have his Unicron yet*

You guys are so young. I had to put up with "Partridge Family 2200AD" which confused my young mind into thinking:
"If the cartoon Partridge family is the Partridges in space then George Jettson in space must be George Jefferson. I wonder why he isn’t black."

God that Gilligan’s planet was awful. One episode, they discovered a race of aliens where the females worked and the males stayed home and cooked and cleaned and wore aprons. All 80′s cartoons had lessons, 70′s cartoons were short on lessons even if they sucked.

The WWF show was pretty cool.

That Laverne and Shirley Cartoon was cashing in on the success of "Private Benjamin" not the cold war.

I MET beakman! He was doing an appearance to help fund a kids museum here in Kansas City, or just promoting his show. Who knows?

Rock’N Wrestling was the shit! I also hated James Bond Junior with a passion. But I did watch Toxic Crusaders and Ataack of the Killer Tomatoes. By the way, does anyone know where I can find the Toxic Crusaders’ theme song?

Chestnuts roasted by Rob @ 08/21/2003 3:33 PM

Why is everyone hating on James Bond Junior?

I suppose one is inclined to one’s own opinion. However I agree that Eek the Cat should return and save the next generation from crap like..um… most everything on Cartoon Network. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes had a pretty cool theme song, as I remember it.

I have that freddy stick up figure somewhere, now I must go find it. Thanks for ruining my afternoon.

I’m a little surprised you overlooked the toy Freddy glove with the plastic blades. Once you got past the novelty of flipping off your friends, and picking your nose with it, it still had it’s charm. Also, no mention of the infamous talking Freddy doll from Matchbox, which was pulled after parent’s groups thoughta cuddly talking doll of a child molestor was a bad idea.

One of the websites I regularly visit is http://www.toontracker.com which does an excellent job of presenting rarely seen cartoons. There are a number of Prime Time to Saturday Morning cartoons listed on that site that I missed completly…along with L&S, both "Happy Days" and "Mork & Mindy" had cartoon versions (and apparently all the actors including Robin Williams did their own voices.) Also there was "The Dukes" (Apparently Bo and Luke ripped off Wacky Races as Uncle Jessie stayed at home and held conversations with a raccoon) the afore mentioned "Partrage Family 2200 AD" and "My Favorite Martians" both before my time. And my favorite part of "A Very Brady Sequel" … "My God, I’m tripping with the Bradys!" Now THOSE are weird cartoons. :)

Oh wow, Beakman’s World. Holy crap, that would be one of those "Watched on Saturday Mornings as a Kid, Forgot, Remembered, Missed".

Word up. Back when I still received the Children’s Channel I watched that show religiously, up to the point where they got that new girl. She was a lot sexier, but just didn’t do the job as well as the other one (or so I thought at the time, anyway).

Eek! is classic, and they’re still running the show on Dutch TV (albeit dubbed these days, which is terrible).

About Gilligan’s planet. In one episode they made another rocket to escape the planet and it crashed on an island. So on top of being marooned on a planet, now they were marroned on an island on that planet.

Still Surprised noone made a M*A*S*H cartoon I guess only so much Jamie Farr is legaly allowed by the Geneva Convention.

You know what the greatest part about remembering all these old shows is? I lived in Mexico until i was 9, so it’s fun to remember how dumb the spanish versions of shows were. Here are my top 10 Show/Character translations.(in a very non-elaborate order)
1- Ghostbusters= Los Casafantasmas(say THAT three times fast)
2-Cobra Commander was "El Comandante Cobra" No big change there, but he sounds so much more like a Colombian president. ^_^
3- Smurfs AKA "Los Pitufos" …. nuff said.
4- "He-Man, y los Amos del Universo" The best part part was his metamorphosis: "Por el poder de Greyskull… Yo soy HE-MAN!!!!"
5- La Abeja Maya (Maya the Bee). I LOVE that stupid song!
6- Least effort was done on Skelletor "Eskeletor"
7- I always felt odd watchin GI JOE in Mexico. I had no idea they were US soldiers ha!
8- The Spanish word foe whale is "Ballena" Remember that Matt.
9- I said i had ten. I lied. I feel sleepy.
10- I lied about having lied.

*The last two items on the list are true.
**The previous statement is a lie. :D

i watched NMoES 3Dream Warriors(first time)last night and the scene with the punk chick with her switchblades walking down a dirty alley was like watching live action Double Dragon. I can’t believe it was a coincidence considering the time. And the D+D shit was hysterical.
