New Article: Freddy Krueger Toyzzzz!

New Article: Meant to have this one in before the movie hit, but one of the items took too long to get here. It was a Nightmare. HHHAHAHH. Today's article takes an in-depth and firsthand and burned-flesh look at three of Freddy Krueger's strangest toys, ranging from head-shaped water guns to naked man dolls with snap-on Freddy accessories. Also, this week's shorter-than-usual Top 11 covers some of the strangest animated spinoffs ever, from Back To The Future to a Gilligan's Island set in outer space. Mmm hmm. By the way, I'm officially sick of summer. I want my dead leaves now.

Garrison I watched that Dukes of Hazzard Cartoon. Oddly it came out right after "Bo and Luke" left the Prime Time show and were replaced by "Coy and Vance". The cartoon featured "Bo and Luke" and the General Lee had a few extra features like it could make tank treads or balloon tires that would allow it to float. If it had come out a year earlier, it probably would have been a much bigger success.

I had forgotten all about the "My Favorite Martian" cartoon. Bill Bixby’s character was also an alien in the cartoon and had two antennae while "Mr. Hand’s" characher retained the single antenna in the back. Good times.

"That Laverne and Shirley Cartoon was cashing in on the success of "Private Benjamin" not the cold war."

I also remember Popeye cashing in on it. Remember the cartoon series where Olive Oyl is in boot camp, along with Alice the Goon and guest spots with Geep? I would have loved to have been at the network meeting where they round tabled that one. "So, Bob, what me and the boys down in writing have come up with is Popeye’s girlfriend in the army, oh yeah, and we baked one mean sumbeatch batch of hash brownies. Try one, it makes the pitch sound better."

Actually there was a MASH parody cartoon. I never saw it, but there was an mid 70′s show called "Uncle Croc’s Block" starring Charles Nelson Reilly in a parody of 50s kids shows. He would show cartoons on his show, one of which was "MUSH" starring the cast of MASH as dogs in Alaska. I’d like to see a tape of the show if anyone knows where it might be gotten.

Ghostbusters gets a truly deserved #1 on the chart; that was a really good one. Bitchin’ toys.

Droids and Ewoks is kinda wierd though; I loved ROTJ, but never really was sure how to take the cartoon. I do seem to remember some pretty funky toys and action figures being spawned out of it ( Matt, anybody, do you remember cartoon C3PO and R2 action figures?)

Conan the Barbarian had a fairly cool cartoon in the early 90′s

I think foxbox is just the name for the cartoon line-up on Fox tv stations, like KidsWB is the name for the WB cartoon line-up.

Prostars…oddly enough, I remember watching this show, although I’ve never given a rat’s ass about sports.

L&S in the Army escaped me for some reason, although I was 4-6 at the time.

Rock ‘N’ Wrestling was also one I watched, although I never gave a rat’s ass about wrestling, either.

I never saw Gilligan’s Planet either, which I think is a pity.

I remember Ewoks and Droids…I even have some of the Star comics based on the series…if anyone’s interested…

I loved the Bill and Ted cartoon…it wasn’t great, but it kept my heroes alive…and it was better than the live action show, by far.

Teen Wolf was odd, just odd.

I remember watching Beetlejuice, but I don’t remember much about it…it was alright, just something I watched because it was on, I think.

Back to the Future was the shiznit. Oddly enough, Christopher Lloyd played Doc in the live action bits, but didn’t provide the voice for the cartoon…WTF?

I remember liking Alf Tales more than the Alf cartoon, because it was familiar subject matter…I didn’t give a rat’s ass about Alf’s life on Melmac, I was all about seeing Alf and his pals reenact The Wizard of Oz.

The Real Ghostbusters was also the proverbial shiznit…the Sandman creeped me out.

All in all, any of these shows would be prime candidates for X-E reviews…

Matt, so many other spin-offs have been mentioned, I think we need a sequel to the list…

Garrison, MUSH and a lot of other Filmation shows were released on home video in the eighties and you can still get them on Ebay.

There’s also a site called http://www.wingnuttoons.com

It’s a sort of cartoon preservation club, where you can pretty much acquire almost any episode of almost cartoon series. It costs a ‘donation’ of about 10-20 bucks a tape (there’s usually several episodes on one video), and this guy has a whole ton of stuff. I got my (almost) complete collection of the Dungeons&Dragons
through this site; if you’re totally obsessed with one of the above or other series and you’d like to get as many episodes as possible, then this is the place to go; very reliable and quick too

I clearly recall a cartoon featuring Laverne and Shirley as half-assed superheroes — half-assed literally, as they had found a super power suit (in a blunt ripoff from ‘The Greatest American Hero’) and, unable to agree who should wear it, spilt the costume in half — one of the girls getting the powers inherent in the suit’s top, and the other wearing the super pants. I assume Laverne got the shirt, since that would allow them to carry her monogram schtick into a superheroic design. What I don’t recall was whether this was a short-lived cartoon of its own, or just a single episode of ‘L&S in the Army’, or a backup feature on the Fonz cartoon…
