07/22/2003: New Article: Ninja Turtles Shrinky Dinks!
Discussion Thread: 45 comments
Finally - I’ve gotten a first post!
The TMNT rock. They always have and always will. The article needed work, though. How could you write about the TMNT and not mention Splinter? A giant talking rat is almost as cool as the Turtles…

I lost all faith in Splinter are the Coming Out of Their Shells video, where he gave them a philosophical speech about transcending beyond ninjas to rock stars.

The one thing that was mine and mine alone is now gone. You know how when celebritys give tours of their houses and they say, "I won’t show you my bed room because its the one thing i want for me." It’s like that. So long shrinky dinks…you whore of the public (as opposed to being my concubine alone, right, ha ha).

Did anybody else catch the egg in the article?

man when I was a kid, I had Dukes of Hazard shrinky dinks! I bet they are still at my parents house somewhere, I should dig around next time I’m there, but then again knowing all the toys and cool things I have there, I would be trapped there until next year.
matt is there something wrong… you seem to be throwing in a lot of gratuitous cuss words in your articles lately….

Have I? Definitely not by design, I usually prefer not to these days.

as for the egg… dog years!

So Matt, whatever happened to Skelators original arms? Did ya chew em off ?

Posted by
Gozer @ 07/22/2003 5:27 PM EDT
Ah…Skeletor’s arms. I remember reading about that a long time ago. Any chance you could post a link to the article where Skeletor loses his arms, Matt?

The band Sugar Ray was threatened that they must change their original name, Shrinky Dinx, before their first record was released.

I thought Skeletor just stole Moss Man’s arms cuz he’s EVIL.
On Don (rhyme!): Holy Mutant Teenage Mutant Ninja turtle.
Love the new thing with the pictures going into the Blogomments.
Look, everything’s in one post!
Skeletor’s the egg, right?

Matt! Where the hell is the Krang shrinkydink?! It’s useless if they don’t have a foe!

Gozer, what I believe is the original article featuring Skeletor with Moss Man’s arms can be found here: http://www.x-entertainment.com/messages/649.html
It really doesn’t explain WHY Skeletor took his arms. Guess that’ll go into the Great X-E Mystery Archive, along with the contents of the last few days on the Advent Calendar (and yes Matt, we’re still pissed about that).
Hehehe…Pee-Wee Shrinky Dinks.

Fruggin Hell…that last post was me.

I thought skeletor’s arms were taken away by the Mafia, or the Ninja Turtles, or something. Then he took mossman’s arms because he was conviniently right there when skeletor’s arms were taken away. I think too much…
Anyway, multi-colored Donatello rocks. Someone should make a figure of that, it’s gold I tell ya’!

Ah yes, the lost Advent calender. My sister had one. And now I shall never know why Santa had a Superman cape!

Never had those things as a kid- I amused myself beating up the neighbors with sticks. (We called it "swordfighting.") But now, at the ripe old age of 25, I find a sudden need in my life for Shrinky Dinks. Thanks, Matt. I bet I won’t know what any of the currents sets are. Cartoons just aren’t what they used to be…

tharfoir @ 07/22/2003 9:31 PM EDT
tharfoir: try watching the Saturday morning cartoons sometime. They’ll probably be more familiar than you think (I just turned 28). Transformers, Justice League, X-Men and He-Man are the ones that spring to mind (no GI Joe yet, which is odd considering the new toys that are around). I want new DinoRiders!
I want the blank sheets. They should make ones that can be sent through a printer for those of us who cannot (nay, will not) colour inside the lines. Or want to make our own special Krangs. If they don’t make printer-friendly blank Shrinky-Dink sheets, it was my idea first–this post is proof. I will go talk to Epson or HP eventually.

Yeah… didn’t the Ninja Turtles chop off Skeletor’s arms after he escaped from Peewee’s playhouse?
"…and believe me, I taste like sh*t" is one of my favorite lines of all time.

I thought it had been established that Moss Man’s arms are the best arms, and that’s why Skel has them? Or did I just make that up?

sean, shinky dinks does make shrinky paper for the printer. Not that i work for the shrinky dinks company or anything (errrr) just thought i should help

I’ve been FRANTICALLY searching for shrinky dinks for the past year, and I can’t find them! Closest Toys’r'Us is two towns over (really! There isn’t one in Halifax!), so I’m shit out of luck.

jjgoreha @ 07/23/2003 11:21 AM EDT
I remember doing shrinky dinks at my aunts house, I think I got to do he-man. I have to stop coming to this site. I keep buying this stuff after Matt does an article on it…

Posted by
spazzamatic @ 07/23/2003 11:33 AM EDT
Kennef: a) damn. c) thanks. b) where do you find them? I have delusions of having entire prehistoric worlds ruled by Krang taking over my home (when the wife isn’t home) and I would rather use copyright images that look good rather than anything I could draw.

Once again, the American culture amazes me… Cooked plastic. Outstanding. I need to look those up next time I’m up there. One question, though, is the cookie thing an integral part of the process, or the durability comes from the cooled-off shrunk plastic?

Well I remember him having Mossmans arms in the Pepsi Blue article which was before the Pee Wee article. I don’t think Matt had a Skelator photo article before that. Am I wrong? I must know what happened to the original arms! I’m obsessed !

Hi! Matt, might I beg and grovel for the promised galleries of photog art?

Missing Photog @ 07/23/2003 2:41 PM EDT
I just read the article and… WOW! Raphael and Leonardo have never looked gayer! Seriously, look at them! They’re as flamin’ gay as springtime!
By the way… Pee-Wee Shrinky Dinks. Say that phrase and TELL me it doesn’t sound filthy!
Dear GOD thassalotta comments on yer shrinky dinks, Matt. Way ta go. I want some goshdamned shrinky dinks now…

Matt, the multi-colored Donatello is wonderful! And am I the only person who realizes that Raphael is in the gayest pose that a Ninja Turtle can be in? Matt, when did you buy the new Ninja Turtle figures? You consumer whore. I bought them all too. They are super-affordable! Even the Battle Shell. I’m looking for the Photog and Bitner Shrinky Dinks. I’m off like a cheap prom dress!

Bansheex @ 07/23/2003 4:46 PM EDT
Leonardo looks like one of 7 dwarfs in that, also he looks much shorter then the other turtles.
It may just be me, but the arm on Skeletor that you can see lokks a lot like Prince Adam’s…did Skeletor finally put two and two together and rip the effeminate, purple pants wearing prince’s arms off? Say that five times fast.

Black Zarak @ 07/23/2003 11:54 PM EDT
Well, I found out what happened to Skeletor’s right arm, and it’s in this article:
http://www.x-entertainment.com/messages/403.html
I have no clue where his left arm is or why he has Moss Man’s arms, though.

Paul @ 07/24/2003 7:48 AM EDT
Hah! Bansheex thinks Raph looks gay too!

I have been an avid reader of your site for years
I have you say, Holy Shit, this is the funniest article you’ve ever written in my opinion. Not to say that you’re others suck, but I just wanted to let you know– keep these coming, man.

Hit Toys ‘R Us last night and they had: Ultimate Spider-Man (bought), Scooby Doo (bought), Hello Kitty, and generic bugs and flowers and crap Shrinky Dinks… These kits were $6.99 They also had a special oven that is LAME and expensive! And last but not least they had deluxe sets of Spidey and Disney Princesses… The deluxe spidey came with a skyscraper like playset and the Princesses had a castle playset… Thanks for reminding me of these… I’m 26 and I still had a blast coloring and cooking these suckers last night…

sallizar @ 07/24/2003 2:16 PM EDT
You’re not alone, sallizar. I also went to that fortress of evil screaming children last night. They had bunches of race car and bug shrinky-dinks there, but buried in the back I found The Simpsons. Hehehe. The excess plastic proves useful for my own preschool-level art attempts. At least they get really small so no one can see how much I suck.

tharfoir @ 07/24/2003 6:04 PM EDT
U know I was in an art class where a high school art teacher said her students have never heard of Shrinky Dinks….O_o OMG how can that be?!
BTW, type 6 plastic shrinks like Shrinky Dink paper. Just check on ur household plastics and find the label where it sez what type it is. And they college is a waste….
