06/23/2003: Make Your Very Own Striped Chips Ahoy Flip Book!

As we’ve seen, Chips Ahoy! succeeded where no other cookies have by mixing great taste, ten trillion chocolate chips, and some pretty clever ad campaigns.  The commercials are typically fantastic, but even the print ads were something to behold.  The one shown below was found in a magazine I’m not going to name, because it’ll eventually be reviewed on the site.  Nothing beats surprises.

Striped Chips Ahoy! no longer exist, and yes, it’s a reason to cry.  Taking the normal goodness of a Chips Ahoy cookie and smearing its ass with a healthy dose of milk chocolate would’ve sufficed, but Nabisco went further and even striped the shit with it.  The end results were marvelous and marvelously fatty, but really, this was the best way to eat a single cookie in several bites.  The stripes helped segregate each cookie into easily bitten sections, adding a hint of math and fractions to an otherwise uneducational snack.

Yep, by printing out this ad and grabbing a pair of scissors, you can illustrate the Chips Ahoy! striping process with your very own flip book.  What, you have something better to do?  Cookie crafts are always the best kind, so get printin, get cuttin, and get flippin.  Do it now, before Nabisco manifests itself as a two-headed demon that maims anyone who doesn’t worship it.

Chips Ahoy. I partially blame them on my fatness. The other part is my own obsessive desire for food. So, really, you can’t blame the cookie, succubus of the food world. So delicious, they say. A temporary utopia of chocolate-y goodness. But, as you wrap yourself in all this deliciousness, you soon realize that the effects on your body aren’t worth it! But it is too late. The cookie, it HAS you. And it won’t let you go. Oh sure, they say "Just put down the cookies", "eat something else", but they don’t know how it feels when the dark hand of the chocolate has you in its GRASP.

I’d do the flip book, but I’m too lazy. Yeah, people who eat cookies getting up and doing anything involving using thier bodies energy? Dream on!

Oh, and if you bet me I’ll bite a stripe, you’ll LOOSE, because I’ll just take a tiny nibble on the outside, and get only dough! SUCKER!

Ah, Striped Chips Ahoy. I could eat a whole bag right now. And I just finished an entire pint of Haagen-Dasz Chocolate-Peanut Butter Ice Cream. Am I a fat disgusting slob? No, not yet, but I feel like one. Striped Chips Ahoy. Mmmmmm.

BTW, Matt, I just read your site for the first time tonight. You are one funny motherfucker.

You know, if someone actually felt like doing it, that Chips Ahoy ad would make a great animated GIF…

The saddest part is, I actually really did feel like doing it. http://www.firethelaser.com/cookie.html

Here’s the GIF, Paul.

And yes, I have no life.

Damnation! Foiled again!

Wow, a three minute difference. You are quick. But I am quicker. I am the GIF NINJA!

Ghosted by Linz @ 06/23/2003 9:27 AM EDT

I seem to remember that ad. I also remember one where the Chips Ahoy cookie was a maze, and you had to work your way to the end going through as few chips as possible. There was even a little score tally off to the side. Zero chips was "Impossible! We told you!". One chip was "Chip Skipper". And the highest one was "You bit a mouthful. Try again."

Striped Chips Ahoy were like Heroin to me as a kid. I wish they still made ‘em. :(

The chewy ones were a second favorite. Anyone ever microwave a batch of Chewy Chips Ahoy for about a minute first? Deelish!!!

Now, REVIEW "MAC AND ME"!!!!!!!!!

Both gifs are equally delicious.

The Hulk Hands are on first page again… WHERE THEY DESERVE!!!!!!! Have you seen the movie yet, Matt?

By the way, this weekend I was cruising the toy aisles and found "Wolverine Claws". Kinda as cool as Hulk Hands, they do have the cool sound effects, but I don’t think they have the same appeal since you can’t punch your little brother or your cat with it without leaving at least three holes on them.

Well, to deliberate the GIFs, Linz had the smoother animation, but JC had the numbers in the upper left hand corner.  So, it’s a tie.  Hey, Matt, I’m no Toilet Duck or Mac and Me freak, (no offense) but will you pretty please review Freaked?  Everyone will enjoy it.  Thanks.  Photog away!

Awesome GIFS, guys.
Matt, did you like HULK? Those that have seen it, do you think it lived up to the hype? It was different than what I was expecting, but in a very good way. It was the only comic adaptation I’ve seen that had the feeling of actually reading a comic book. I loved it. (Eat it, SpiderMan)
But I was slightly dissappointed in the total lack of Hulky’s signature line. Oh well, that’s what sequels are for.
(btw, is it pronounced Banshee X, or is it more like Bansheiks?)

ban those shieks! ban ‘em!

i’m going to forfeit hulk. i did the same to spiderman, and didnt look back. i saw x-men on opening night, though… and i downloaded x2…

what can i say? i have a wolvie fetish.

oh, and i’m just waiting with pure stupid anticipation that gambit will show up.

Ghosted by evin @ 06/23/2003 5:30 PM EDT

oh, and despite the powers of the mighty affleck, i also nixed the idea of seeing daredevil.

my hope for comic movies is dying. especially since there’s the pretty reputable rumour going around that ashton kutcher is the next batman.

Ghosted by evin @ 06/23/2003 5:32 PM EDT

I heard a rumor at http://www.upcomingmovies.com that Christopher Nolan was going to direct the next Batman, with Guy Pearce at Bats. Not sure if that’s good or not.

Photog can wait. I want the damn advent calender to be finished. You guys remember that?

We need to get on Matt’s back to finish the calender before we can start hoping to see more photog art.

Ghosted by Jeff @ 06/23/2003 7:31 PM EDT

hahahaha fat chance on that one.

technically, didn’t we see every day except the last? And then three months later, didn’t we see a mysterious Santa surrounded by Winninghams? I think that’s the most we can hope for until December rolls around again.

Ghosted by squee4242 @ 06/23/2003 7:39 PM EDT

Ya know,  I remember that ad from many years ago…don’t remember which magazine it was from tho.  I also remember another Striped Chips Ahoy print ad that had a crossword puzzle on the cookie.

Forget "Mac and Me",  bring back Mac Tonight!

As for the new Batman flick,  I read on E! Online that Ashton Kutcher is the current choice to play Batman.  (no,  i’m not kidding)

squee, even though i enjoyed your eat it spiderman comment I think you should’ve adopted my phrase…"Suck it Duncan" in obvious reference to Man-At-Arms…

Oh well, I digress as this blog concerns cookies, well actually I don’t have much of a sweet tooth anymore and the I don’t think the Army would appreciate me waddling instead of running…By the way, I second a review of Freaked.

The Gifs are very nice and fill me with glee. Any questions I had concerning the creation and consumtion of these cookies are now answered in full animated style.

"Betcha bite a stripe!"
"Difficult, but not impossible."
"Here’s one more!"
"Now…now…"…curses! I forget the rest of the commercial!
Great, now I have a craving for those glorious striped cookies, but there’s no way for me to fufill that crave. There might be some unopened bags somewhere, but how edible would they be?

Well, I should track down that Chips Ahoy commercial. I actually have that on tape somewhere, sandwhiched between…something.

Speaking of commercials, there’s one from the early 90’s that needs to be immortalized with video capture: Magic Potty Baby. I’d do it myself, but I don’t have the equipment necessary…"Magic Potty Baby, your bottles all gone, your potty training time will be so much fun…"

Oh, right, back on topic: Bring back Striped Chips Ahoy, Nabisco! Bring it back NOW!

oh, christ, it’s almost 5 in the am and I’m jonesing for those striped cookies.  yeah, they were like crack back in the day.  I still don’t know why they don’t make ‘em anymore but they were good.

Ghosted by fukwan @ 06/24/2003 7:44 AM EDT

Ya know, I could always easily get around eating the chips and stripes.  I wonder what their side of the bet was because I believe I’m entitled to something.

UUhhh, yeah, they wanna make some Australian guy the next Batman?  What in the blue hell are they thinking?  Jeez, I think Keanu Reeves could pull it off better than some Australian dude, although Batman is supposed to have some physical size to him, which would make him more intimidating, not to mention that if Batman were to sound like the freaking crocodile hunter, I would most likely laugh my ass off as I walked out of the theater.  CRIKEY!  Let’s go, Robin!  Oh well, who knows, maybe this guy can pull it off, and we will finally see a really good Batman movie, cause frankly, the last two installments have been incredibly lackluster, and downright cheesy, with the exception of Jim Carrey’s rendition of the Riddler, which in my opinion, saved that movie from being too cheesy.  Oh well, I guess it’s only a matter of time before Batman becomes the Crocodile Hunter…….CRIKEY!! :op

Matt how could you forget the sprinkles Chips Ahoy!? That was my favorite kind ever made. Personally I think it’s a reason to cry for the sprinkles ones.

Actually,  forget I said "Forget Mac and Me."  I just checked that one out at IMDB,  and am highly intrigued.  I’ll defanetly be pickin’ that one up on eBay soon…

The Wizard is to Nintendo as Mac and Me is to McDonald’s and Coca-Cola?  hoooooo!

Squee, it is Banshee X.  I chose that because of my Scottish heritage.  I added in the X because I’m EXTREME!  Haha.  That and I love ATV’s.  Hope that cleared up any problems.  By the way, what was the link that someone put up that had the Japanese Seizure Fighting Robots?  I LOVE that link!

Sweet mother of potatoes. "Here comes the FUDGE"?!?!?!? Putting this ad in the 80’s, that’s still DECADES after "Laugh-In", Pigmeat Markham, and "Here Come the Judge".
