Superman’s Kryptonite Rocks!

Back in 1977, when the planet was still mostly oceans, a small company started putting ads in comic books and sci-fi magazines detailing how kids could own their very own pieces of Kryptonite. In today's article, we take a look back at this 'pet rock' fad item. Superman might hate the stuff, but it looks great in Zen gardens. Complete with scans of the original ad and a tutorial on how you can make your very own Kryptonite Rocks right now! Yeah!

Probably doing a movie review tomorrow, though the movie itself is still up for debate. The woman managed to find Munchies at a place near her job - I doubt many remember that one, but it's one of the only 'Gremlins-style' movies I haven't reviewed. I've also got one where Andy Kaufman plays a robot in love, and still another where a woman turns into a wasp who fucks and eats people. Anyone want to help me decide?

I vote for the wasp woman, Matt. Though "Heartbeeps" might also be fun.

I’ve actually never seen Heart Beeps, so I’m a little apprehensive about the review. Does anyone know if it’s ‘good’ along the same lines as the other crap flicks I review? If it’s too much of a spoof/comedy, I won’t be able to do it. :/

Munchies is fine but Munchie with Dom DeLuise is better.

I’ve also got ‘Munchie Strikes Back,’ but can see no connection between it and Munchies so far. Is Munchie the key?

WASP WOMAN! WASP WOMAAAAANNNN!!!!

Chestnuts roasted by Konopka @ 05/20/2003 2:08 PM

FYI: it’s the 60s version of Wasp Woman, not the made-for-tv smut version. :/

While we’re on the subject of Dom DeLuise, I vote for Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

I vote for both Wasp Woman and Munchie(Dom Deluise), just because the cover in the video store aisles creeped me out as a kid.

Yes Munchie is the key. Munchie Strikes Back is the sequel to Munchie, which has nothing to do with Munchies. I’ve confused my self now. Also on the subject of Dom, watch The Skateboard Kid, its the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but I have never watched Nukie.

worst pop-up ever…… EVER….. damn thing makes you think you are closing it, but goes a step further from other popups, they keep coming… and you really have to look for the close button.

I’m all for Wasp Woman, or, alternately, Munchies. But I’m biased because I sort of kind of really (heart) Andy Kaufmann and Bernadette Peters, so it would be hard not to be distracted from the review by the "Woo! Andy! Yeah! Bernadette! Woo!" voice in my head if you did Heartbeeps.

Woo Andy! Woo Bernadette!

So, I vote for Wasp Woman. Even if there is no smut. :]

I would like to see a review of at least one of the following shhhit-coms.

Out Of This World with Doug McClure (Simpsons’ Troy McClure is based on this guy, and Bruce Campbell really should play in in a TV movie about his life.)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0092423

What A Dummy with Stephen Dorff(The Gate, Blade)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0098947

The Charmings
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0092332

LOVED What a Dummy. CAN’T find a tape of it anywhere. :(

… Wasp who mates with, then eats people? Gotta’ admit that raised an eyebrow for me, Matt… Sounds like Queen Bee from the Darkstalkers videogame series. Though, Andy Kaufman as an infactuated android is not to be taken lightly.

… taken with a lot of alcohol, maybe, but not lightly.

*drinks some water just to do a spit take*

SFFFFFFFFFFOOOOEY!!! O_O You mean to tell me that "Munchies" features DOM DELUISE? The chubbiest, wisest, jolliest, red-nosiest man in America second only to Rush Limbaugh? Sweet Heaven! Now I understand your dilemma!

My head says Wasp Woman but my heart says Munchie.

Cannonball Run 2.

I always wondered why everyone and there mother had kryptonite in the Superman comics. Thanks for clearing it up Matt.

As for the movies, Munchies, why umm… because.

richard, i loved the charmings! that was so goooood and cheesy. i wish they would play it on an old cable station.

Chestnuts roasted by jessywessy @ 05/20/2003 4:09 PM

Andy kaufman was in that? I thought it was jerry lewis. Of course I haven’t seen it in about 20 years.
I don’t think Heart beeps is crappy enough. Do Munchies first.

It would be cool if I could choose a different character for the blog. That SMB2 character is getting old.

Chestnuts roasted by lvh;lbhk @ 05/20/2003 4:35 PM

I’m still in favor of Matt reviewing "Anamalympics," the strangest, quirkest, most discombobulated and embrangling animated movie ever to come out of the late 70′s/early 80′s. It has a cheeta falling in love with a goat. If that don’t spell "Weird City" to you, then you actually know how to spell.

Chestnuts roasted by Freezair @ 05/20/2003 4:36 PM

munchies that sounds tight. i thought it had somethin to do wit weed but the fact it’s a gremlins rip off make it sound even better, def curious.

i guess i never got the whole andy kaufman thing he was just never funny 2 me, guess it just wasn’t my taste in comedy.

Did the alien thing on the cover of "Munchies" wear Nikes or something like that? If it did, then you’ve just solved a question that’s been burning in my head for at least two months. If not, well, sleep is overrated anyhow.

Chestnuts roasted by Travis @ 05/20/2003 5:07 PM

This may be going a little off-topic here, but Dom Deluise triggered my memory. Does anybody know the name of the movie about an alien that eats Italians? I saw this at 3am on USA Up All Night in 92 or so, but have never been able to find out what the movie was.
