03/28/2003: GBK Coming Sooooon.
Discussion Thread: 31 comments
Woohoo! First comment.
I mainly remember the Garbage Pail Kids as something a friend of mine had, and she had maybe 75% of the ones that made a big picture when you flipped them over and put them together like a puzzle. Like many things when you were a kid, you thought "Wow, when I have ALL of the ones in the set, it’ll be so great!" Somehow, you lose interest before you get them all.

I went through a phase with the cards, especially since our old local flea market used to sell the uncut set sheets for 3.00 each. I forget how many cards that means, but all the posters were there. Like everyone else in my class, I got rid of them all after someone decided they were ‘bad luck.’

My cousin owned a bunch of cards that he posted on his door. Does anybody remember the name of the one baby that was full of bullet holes?
I was going to post a HUGE comment about why I never had any garbage pail kids, but then decided against it. I don’t really even know why I’m writing this. today sucks. oh yea, that was a cock hole.

I found a webpage that has the garbage pail kids that you can download. It’s in realplayer so the quality sucks but it’s a small download, 15mb I think. Here is a link but it is down now. http://www.100percentgpk.com
Anyways, I bought a bunch of videos from the dollar store last week and did a review of the Monsters Be Gone! kit. It has a movie and a bunch of other stuff that came with it. If you want to see it http://www.geocities.com/chemosh6969/reviews/monster.html
I think you guys might get a kick out of it

Matt, have you ever seen Meet the Feebles? If not, you should watch it ASAP. It’s like the Muppets, but on crack.

The pouch is a very odd item. It would probably sicken and disgust you if you new why it isn’t what you say it is. Unfortunately I saw what happens on TV and I learned how the baby kangaroo gets into the pouch.

Matt, please have an audio sample of that inane song they sing.. something about ‘we can do anything’. I dunno, I haven’t seen the flick since 1989. A picture of you naked would rock, too, but we don’t get everything, I suppose…

Why was I using UBB code?!

Off on a small tangent here, but if I hear the line "electrical storm" on this site ONE more time, I’m gonna have to eat my speakers. LOVE the site, HATE the audio banners.

Jokir @ 03/29/2003 6:03 AM EST
I couldn’t agree more, those audio banners are real shit when you’re trying to read the blog, and troubleshoot a no post/no vid issue w/ customer. in my case they got mad and hung up. oh well.

First time for me posting on the blog here but I’ve been reading this site Since pretty damn close to the beginning. Ahh the old days when the page wasn’t beset by insane banners and pop ups and matt would sometimes update twice sometimes more a day.
I collected GPKs with psare change I would collect from my mom’s purse and used to plaster the stickers on my bedroom wall. I’ve never had the pleasure (?) of seeing the movie so I’m dying to read the review.
BTW I can’t remember if you’ve done one but Matt PLEASEEE do a review of the Captain Power tv show and corresponding interactive toyline, quite possibly some of the coolest toys EVER

Don’t forget that GPK is one of Tarantino’s favorite movies and that there was an animated series never shown on CBS due to its grossness.

I remember the song the Garbage pail kids sang in the movie! It went like this, "we can do anything by working with each other, la la lala lala lala…"
GPK FOREVER!

Hey all. First post here in the blog. Though I adore the site! Pop culture, rancid food, reviews of bad movies and a guy whose childhood nickname was Digdogger–what more could a geek such as myself ask for?
As I mentioned above–bad movie reviews. I love bad movie reviews! Because of the fact the 80’s were over before I could properly remember them, I never really knew the GPK. But I’ve read enough on ‘em to be both highly disgusted and inexplicably intrigued.

in New Zealand they were called the "garbage gang kids" o_O
it’s strange that they filtered out the american colloquialism "pail" but not "garbage", you’d think theyd call them the "rubbish bin kids" or something. possibly doesnt have quite the same ring to it though

I remember seeing a babysitter show us the movie. I don’t know if it was a form of torture or if she actually thought we would enjoy the damned thing.
Of course, its no Meet the Feebles, but what is?

Hey ME
I never thought to use the web archive to see how this site used to look. Wow, what can I say? It never really bothered me how this site looks now(other than the fact that X-E graphic should be in the upper left, not UGO), but now I really hate this layout. Thanks for pissing me off.

Posted by
Chemosh @ 03/30/2003 8:55 PM EST
Good question. Why IS the UGO logo first…?

My first viewing of GPK came during my freshman year of college. It was another lonely friday night for me, so I went out by myself, ate pizze, saw Scream 3, then came back to the hall to go to sleep. Another guy asked if I wanted to go check out the showing of GPK at the union. I didn’t have anything else to do, so I did. Now, some may say the movie is terrible, but for some reason, that’s one of my clearest memories from that year. That counts for something in my book (which is a pretty sad book, BTW).

Captain Power?
Heck, I actually have the badguy ship, a couple figs, the 3 anime interactive tapes, and the most surreal activity book ever….
Is good stuff, and the badguy ship is so cool.
Bought it to use as props for a Star Wars RPG campaign that got cancelled 2 days before it was supposed to start.

Bloodcat,
I was actually a kid toy tester for Captain Power. I remember all of the kids were into it because we were all playing Photon/Lazer Tag/Laser Combat at the time. The technology was actually devleoped by Mattel for the Bravestarr figures(an overlooked classic), but was fully realized with Captain Power. Also, it has been mentioned before here that Captain Power was created by Gary Goddard(Masters of the Universe, Skeleton Warriors) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5).
