Short Update

Hewwo everyone. It's December 10th - we're getting mighty close to Christmas. From now until then, expect lots and lots (read: too many) of reviews about all the various cartoon holiday specials I can find. The latest went up today, Christmas Comes To Pac-Land. On deck are The Smurfs, Gloworms, and if you're lucky, Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

Unfortunately, it's been a pretty busy week, and I haven't been able to devote as much time to writing as I'd like. I updated the Advent Calendar Christmas Countdown, so check it out if you've missed it. So far we've collected two lambs, two rabbits, and yes, two Mare Winninghams. I wasn't kidding when I said that I didn't look at the contents beforehand - as we go along, I'm just as surprised as you.

Two Towers opens soon, and by all accounts, it's a masterpiece. Honestly, I haven't seen a single negative comment about the film, and I've read plenty of reviews from non-fanboys. I'm seeing it this Thursday. I hate to admit it, but this series is easily going to overshadow Star Wars in the long run, and I'm not even just talking about the prequels. And while I'll always love lightsabers and TIE Fighters more than anything else, I have to begrudgingly concede that Peter Jackson is putting together a trilogy that's going to end up a whole lot more meaningful. Still, no LOTR movie will ever have Salacious Crumb eating C-3P0's eyes. So there. Star Wars is still better.

I think you should burn Mare Winningham Original with the lantern and have Mare Winningham the Sexier (hey. She gives off a vibe) take her place in a diabolical scheme to confuse me. I’m easily confused, so the plan has a great chance at success.

Hey, what if Peter Jackson goes cameo-ape-shit with lord of the rings 3 like Lucas has with the prequels? Maybe we will see Salacious Crumb eating C-3P0′s eyes in lotr… then again Lucas is a special case.

I was disappointed in that Smurfs review. He didn’t mention that the kids think Papa Smurf is Santa Claus (because all they know about Santa is that he has a beard and wears red), or that the evil guy is apparently the Devil.

I always liked it when cartoons did pure evil characters. Like the episode of He-Man in which he must fight "Evil itself" because it wants a guy’s soul (which for some reason is in the guy’s hand).

Matt, isn’t that first Mare a boy, and the second one a girl? Yeah, he looks girly, but i think he’s a boy. I have a Playmobil pirate (ARRRR!), and even with his full beard, he looks a bit feminine.

I think, by time the advent calendar has revealed all of its secrets, we will be left with some sort of odd yuppie ski resort version of the Bible Christmas story, complete with a Plastic Baby Jesus, barnyard animals, bails of hay, wise men, and bunny salad.

Like the man said, STAR WARS IS STILL BETTER. If not for IFL, Lord of the Rings would be a midget with big fake feet fighting a bunch of puppets, rather than…..uh….Elijiah Wood with big fake feet fighting a bunch of CGI. Anyway, Lucas created an entire universe that we all now know and love, and Jackson is just taking JRR to the big screen, with no insight or original material. It’s a lot harder to bake a cake from scratch then to open a box of cake mix. Just ask Dr. Zauis and Whiplash.

Y’know, I think you’re absolutely right that the LoTR Trilogy will be more meaningful than Star Wars. (I mean, c’mon, the novels alone close that case.)

That said, I could watch A New Hope end to end for three weeks straight before I could sit through Fellowship of the Ring twice. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Fellowship, but man, I’ll NEVER get sick of the original Star Wars.

Can’t we just agree to love both LOTR and Starwars equally? After Fellowship was released last year my friends and I had a message board battle on daddymonkey.com that caused it to crash! I will not choose. I love them both equally with geeky passion.

You know what the Pac-Man special needed? Mesmeron, the villian HB created to sick the ghost-monsters loose on Pacland. The guy looks human enough; maybe have him kidnap Santa or steal the toys. I mean the guy’s not just Pinky’s tailor. (Pinky’s the guy who’s name Matt didn’t remember. The most obvious one, yet!)

OK, I’ve given up figuring out what the Playmobile calendar is giving us, unless it’s some Christmas pagent. Once we got the bucket and modern-clothed girl (which may kill my stableboy theory about Mare1 making the hat stupid again),the whole Nativity possibility went out the window. I’m glad my advent calendars all have fresh Hershey’s choclate instead. The only thing better would be a Kit Kat made with Hershey’s. Seperately they master, together they would rule ALL!

Hey I had one of those Pamela dolls. It was part of collection of dolls my grandmother gave me that creeped my mother out. My mother watched too much Twlight Zone as a kid. Any creepy doll given to me was put in the closet while I was at school. I don’t remember much eles about it. I don’t think I ever got it to work right either. hmmm….

Cartoon Network just showed the Smurfs special. The voice of the Devil was done by Rene Auberjonois of Benson and Deep Space Nine fame.
