12/02/2002: X-E’s Christmas Countdown Feature

I just put up a new feature for the holiday season - a day-by-day Christmas countdown with the aid of Playmobil’s toy advent calendar.  I was doing some gift shopping this past weekend, at Toys R’Us, and I couldn’t pass this up.  Each day, a new toy is pulled of the calendar, and a new mini-review goes up on the countdown page.  So far, we’ve got two lambs and fence.  I honestly have no idea what’s in the other boxes - I made the woman put the thing together because there were 40,000 pieces of cardboard and I couldn’t be bothered.  Of course, my official excuse to her was that ‘the reviews needed the element of surprise.’  Sucker.

Also up today, a pretty rushed review of Child’s Play 2, one of my favorite horror movies ever.  Actually, it’s one of my favorite movies period, which doesn’t say too much for my taste.  Then again, Santa Clause 2 is burning up the charts so none of you people have taste either.  Shame on us all.

re: the advantages of being a little boy over a doll - chuckie DOES have a dick as a doll. they make that clear in Bride of Chuckie and continue to tease us with the idea that a "Son of Chuckie" may eventually get made.

along with jason v. freddie. *sigh*

So that’s one mistake - my friend Dave pointed out another.  Jennie Garth isn’t exactly squirming in obscurity at the moment.  She’s on some show on the WB.

Pfft.  Same thing, right?

"The lambs….Can you hear them screaming?"

See? That’s why the regular advent calendars are better than the one you have. Instead of getting chocolate every day of December until Christmas, there’s a good chance you’re going to be stuck with a plethora of lambs and fences by Christmas. Poor you.

Hmmm… I spend too much time on this website… Oh well.

Small mistake that confused my small brain- the first day of the advent thing says "Third day" at the top. Just so, you know, if the anal retentive police inspect your site, they’d complain if they saw that.
Child’s Play 2… only one I ever saw. I think I just saw the end to. You left out the guy who got his eyes gored with doll eyes on the machine. That was the best part.

I liked Child’s Play three, if only for the barber scene.

i wish i had a advent calender that was chock full o’ lambs ::sigh::

Hmmm… we’ve got an advent calender too, but it doesn’t have either chocolate OR lambs.  Just a bunch of felt shapes you stick on a tree, stars and diamonds and crosses and apples and stuff.  It’s kind of like decorating a Christmas tree with frickin’ Lucky Charms, actually.  Huh.  I’d never noticed that before.  I think this site is now officially corrupting my brain.  Time to go lie down for a while.

I’m pretty ure that the first lamb wasn’t a lamb at all, it wa a sheep!

The SECOND lamb was a lamb, probably the sheep’s son or daughter.

Ahh, the advent calendar is so cool! I like it so much i gave it a plug in my crappy LiveJournal that nobody reads. So that one extra hit you get, it’s from me! Merry Early Christmas, Matt!

I’m not sure if I’m spoiling the suprise here, since I’m only guessing based on what you’ve gotten so far, and I can’t even solve a typical Scooby-Doo mystery. Still, I think that the "girly" figure may actually be a stableboy. I’ve seen them in Nativity scenes with that wierd hat, and there’s an old Christmas special called "The Stableboy’s Christmas" about some stableboy who lives the Nativity while a modern day girl watches her Nativity set come alive after complaining that her parents were giving her cousin a sweater for Christmas that she thought she deserved. (Little brat!) Most notable on that special? Mr Kincade leaves the Partridge Family to join the Roman army! It’s from like the late 70’s/early 80’s or something. I usually see it on a local channel or Cable Access. Anyway, he wears that same hat.

Gah, you’re all going to Hell for voting Ralphie and Baxter freakin’ Stockman over Our Lord and Savior in the Christmas Icon poll.  As am I, for continuing to vote in it anyway.  Oh well.  Maybe I can finagle my way into a better circle than those Baxter Stockman people, at least.  Yeah, that’d be sweet…

Frag the Christmas Icon poll (mostly because I never saw it), I want to know why Christmas Vacation got a higher rank on E!’s movie poll than "Miracle on 34th Street"! And I’m sorry, you’re telling me that "A Christmas Story"’s annual takeover of TNT still allowed it to win #1? Am I the only one who hates that movie? Probably, but you can laugh at me for having "Steel" in my video library. :)
