Just wanted to say that although I know NOTHING about Kang (I'm about at the same point as Matt, maybe a little more thanks to cartoons and just being a general dork when I was in middle school) I seem to remember owning a Kang action figure and thinking he must be cool because the figure was one of my favorites of the Marvel figures. I guess this book proves me wrong.

Christ that sucked!

Not your telling of the mighty tale of the secret wars tho. Only the crap that Marvel used to put out in the 80's!
What part of the Secret wars saga was that part from the "tower of Doom" thing taken from?
Since when did anyone else than Cap use sheilds?
What the hell was up with the crappy quality of the paper it was printed on.

Methinks the apes that made this book actualy had never read any Marvel comic bofore.

Just the fact that you remember that Spidy got the frigging black costume out of that whole story arc marks you as a bigger nerd than you might think.

Oh, and thats another thing!
Kang doesn't look anything like that.

He's power has something to with rewerberating sounds or something. His one hand is supposed to be somekind of tuning fork\satelite dish...

Face it, no one really knows anything about Kang, but we can all complain.

Actually, the sound guy with the tuning fork hand was Klaw, and he was made up of solid sound (hat were Kirby and Lee on?!). Kang was some guy from the far future who came back to battle the Avengers. That's about it really. I actually had the figure, but I didn't even know his name. I just called him "8 man" since his harness thing had an 8 on it. That's what I get for not having friends I guess.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Spidey got the black costume in Secret Wars 1, since the action figure line had the black costume. And really, from what I've read, about the only memorable thing that happens in Secret Wars 2 was Spider-man teaching the Beyonder how to go the bathroom. I bought that issue specificly for that fact.

Being the overlord of all comic book information, I can safely say that yes, indeed, Kang sucks ass. He's a time traveler, but no matter what he tries, he always gets his ass kicked. Maybe try reading a freakin future history book there. Go back to the day that says, "Surprisingly, Kang didn't get his ass kicked today."

Anyway, in the Secret Wars Kang was actually disintegrated by Doom in the 2nd issue and didn't appear in any others. He did eventually get better though.

Oh, and the shield thing...those all came with the action figures. You would put these little pieces of cardboard in the shields that made them into motion movie pictures, like those baseball player things that would occasionally come with Slurpees. The line actually had some oddball characters and was pretty good for it's time. The Doctor Doom figure had a garter belt that you could hang a gun on. There were even expensive European only figures: Iceman, Constrictor, and Electro. The Tower of Doom was a shitty base though. It had a spring action trap door and a command center with a secret entrance. And a gun turret with an ejector seat. Oh, and you could hang the shields on it for some reason.

Loved the Secret wars sticker book article, come to think of it I love your site as a whole, but theres one thing I have to disagree with. In the article you made fun of Captain America a lot. I think that you judge the guy a little too harshly. I can safely say he's one of the best super heroes ever. Think about it, how hard is it to battle the forces of evil when you can fly or shoot missles or climb walls, impressive shit like that? Not a big deal, anybody could fight crime if their super powers are that kickass. Now lets say your super powers are being a white Jessie Owens, having/throwing a shield, and loving your country. It takes balls to fight evil with shitty powers like that. Captain America fucking rocks.

Keep up the good work guy, I love your site.
