New He-Man Article Up on X-E

0.0.0.0|I

Today's article: The Comet Warriors from Masters of the Universe, including an extra special bonus that'll make you wish it was still Halloween. Yes. That's five articles in five days, that's staring at a computer screen for 15,000 hours straight, that's a webmassa who needs to sit in a dark corner for the rest of the weekend with cucumber slices on his eyes and carrot sticks coming out of his ears. The cucumber is good for eye stress, the carrots are just there to make me look funny. I'm pretty sure I'm off till Monday as far as full articles go, but I'll probably drop by here, so check back if you're bored and l-o-n-e-l-y.

How can you possibly have cucumber slices on your eyes while having carrots coming out of them at the same time?

matt has been getting better and better with his articles, but i wouldn’t have thought that the best one so far would be about the stupid he-man rock transformers. it made me want to be able to turn into a rock like the rocks that can turn into people. people like me.

matt can do that cuz he’s god.

For many years, I have fondly remembered the Masters of the Universe and the toys thereof. Many of my friends swore by G.I. Joe, because of their multiple joints and lack of pelvic rubber-bands. In fact, we were divided into camps on the playground based upon our toy allegiances.

And then you came into my life, Matt. You, with your memory of these items, with our insights into their often-ridiculous natures. You have made graduate school surviveable for me, you and your archives section. When the hundreds of pages a week get me down, there is no remedy quite like an article on Stonedar. Stonedar, who was lost to me on a playground one dark, evil day. How I mourn for thee, Stonedar.

How I wish I could join thee in thy rock-world, only to be able to transform instantly back into the semi-human I am now. You are my ideal self, Stonedar. Thank you for restoring Stonedar’s memory to the world, Matt. May the Lord be with you.

I had Rokkon. I have no memory of how i came to own Rokkon, but i think i got it for Christmas one year. I was sure that my mom was somehow tricking me and this was not, in fact, an actual Masters of the Universe figure. I liked him, but he never seemed real. (Him and those orb animal thingies, which i never owned…) Maybe this is due in part to my lack of memory in receiving him. It’s like this orange-and-blue fake rock man appeared in my life one day, just to taunt me. Anyway, i remember carrying him around alot, and then his joints became loose (that sounds dirty), and he didn’t transform very well anymore. He would sit on the table in rock form, and any vibration would make him tip over and fall apart.

Here’s something i wonder: was Rokkon a man who turned into a rock, or a rock who turned into a man? See? Still he taunts me to this very day.

P.S. Suckerman!

i broke mine getting it out of the packet when i was little.

Matt, another great article. Loved the old MOTU when I was younger (I had NEARLY everything, my mother saw to it that today I have nothing). I was wondering if you’d ever do an article on the Meteorbs as I believe they were called (Cristofer mentioned them as well)? I can sweeten the deal for you…I may know a place that has a few of them loose.

This has nothing to do with the rock-warriors, but bear with me. In America did you ever get a cartoon called Mysterious Cities of Gold? It was this anime thing about a Spanish kid with big eyes and his friends stumbling about South America trying to find the lost Cities of Gold, so that the nasty grown-up Spanish people couldn’t have them. They found all these alien civilisations and machinery (including a flying golden condor with stealth-wings) under South America, like a kind of cartoon X-files with big eyes and astonishingly poor dialogue delivered without pause for breath ("Quicklywemustfindthemysteriouscitiesofgoldhahah!").

If you ever did get this show across the pond, it really deserves an article – if not, it’s worth searching out episodes on the net, as I assure you you’ll have seen nothing like it before.

Cheers for the site, Matt – it makes me realise I’m not alone in wasting my adult life on things designed for infants.

Richie,
token English reader.

In the states we did have that cities of gold cartoon, with theme song by the GODS OF ROCK Menudo.

THAT makes it worth searching out alone.

As for Rokkon, he was kind of a stand in for ram man for me. After good Ol R.M. broke, I’d just have He-man throw Rokkon in rock form at the bad guys.

I got Rokkon the same day as Extendar. Extendar was like the god of my figures, I think I even had him kick He-man’s ass every once in a while.

Pretty good for a guy with a hidden peace sign on the back of his neck…

Chestnuts roasted by the 'tin man @ 11/09/2002 3:39 PM

anyone remember dragstor? he was cool. you pulled the strip and he rolled across the table and fell on the floor. what joy

Chestnuts roasted by the 'tin man @ 11/09/2002 3:41 PM

could anyone ever get ram man to ram properly? i couldnt.

one thing i loved about new heman toys was that the spring loaded punch was strong when they were new. i always remember prince adam had the strongest punch. me and my brother would divide the toys into camps and see who could knock the other toysd the furthest. you would have thought it would be fisto but it was prince adam. :$

Oddly enough, I bought one of the rock figures when I was in the 5th grade… some years after the He-man toy line was cancelled. Course’, it was from an Ames department store, which as was one of those stores NOBODY went to anymore and evntually bellied up, so that place was a plethora of vintage 80′s toys until they locked the doors and turned into an yearly flea market joint.

Anyway, yeah, the rock figures looked kinda dorky, but they had that "Ben Grim AKA The Thing" quality where anyone made of rock kicked the most ass. Poor Two-Bad, he just became Rokkon’s bitch.

I like this new update section, i really feel so much closer to you now….

Funny, I remeber the rocks when I was a younen’. It always seemd that everytime I would go over to my friend’s house to play it would end withme whippng the toy rock at his head. This mean it always ended with a stern ‘you shouldn’t do that’ yet I never got in as much trouble as when i threw a real rocks at him!

Chestnuts roasted by Chris @ 11/10/2002 4:17 PM

i alway though shootinbg my little berother with the blue tank was better than throwing rocks

Okay, I have to ask:
What is the name of the hidden song?

Chestnuts roasted by Bobak @ 11/12/2002 1:23 AM

Bobak – that’s Flock of Seagulls. Song is called ‘I Ran.’

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/12/2002 1:25 AM

that song rocks like the rockers on a rocking horse made of rock.
i normally listen to heavy metal and morcheeba, alanis morissette and oldie rock, but that was so coool.

can u reccommend anything by them or anyone else that has a similar feel?
